Introducing the first ever laptop that is 100% designed in house by EVGA, the EVGA SC17 Gaming Laptop. This new 4K ready, high performance laptop was meticulously created from the ground up for the hardcore gamer, performance enthusiast, and even overclocker. No shortcuts here. It all starts with power, an in house EVGA designed power supply with a new unique form factor helps deliver up to 240 watts of power when needed, without compromising battery life.

An Intel Core i7 6820HK CPU that is unlocked and capable of being overclocking to 3800 MHz and beyond, combined with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M, also capable of being overclocked, lets you get the performance you always wanted from a gaming laptop. Did we mention that the EVGA SC17 Gaming Laptop is built for overclocking? A FULL GUI BIOS with full mouse control gives you complete control over all aspects of performance, voltage and advanced settings right at your fingertips. Not to mention, a Clear CMOS button directly on the chassis, this is the world's first TRUE overclocking laptop.

A sleek design rounds out the package with a full unibody chassis, and slim design that is under 1.05in at its thickest point. This is just the beginning. USB 3.1 Type C, excellent sound with an integrated subwoofer, and a beautiful 4K 17" display is what you get when you cross performance with art.

Key Features:
  • Unibody Design - A sleek design and thin 1.05in thickness means this is one of the sleekest laptops around.
  • 4K UHD Display - A Sharp IPS display capable of delivering up to 4K resolution for crystal clear graphics.
  • Incredible Hardware - EVGA is known for performance hardware, and the EVGA SC17 laptop is no exception. An Intel Core i7 6820HK Unlocked processor combined with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M graphics gives you unbelievable performance in the latest games.
  • Built to Overclock - Overclocking on a laptop? Seems like a myth, but we have nothing to hide here. A full GUI BIOS with full control over CPU Multipliers, Voltage, Memory Timings, Frequency, even GPU overclocking right inside the BIOS. It also ships with EVGA PrecisionX mobile for complete control in Windows also!
  • BIOS - The EVGA SC17 Gaming Laptop ships with a REAL BIOS. This means full GUI support including mouse, complete control over all overclocking features such as CPU.
  • EOC (EVGA Express OC) - Overclocking at your fingertips, overclock on the fly with up/down arrow keys allowing you to enable Superclocked performance, or downclock mode to improve battery life. Also cycle through preset overclocks to find the best performance for the situation.
  • EVGA PrecisionX Mobile - The power of EVGA PrecisionX, now mobile with EVGA PrecisionX Mobile. Tweak your overclock settings, overclock hotkeys, profiles and CPU overclocking right at your fingertips. EVGA PrecisionX mobile can even enable/disable laptop backlighting and keyboard lighting!

Technically speaking. That 980m is desktop version of a GTX970 and a single GTX970 doesnt push 4k well on its own. I dont think the 980m will fair any better.

Would rather they kitted it with a 1440p screen but 4k is a big buzzword these days

Only need premium Logitech MX Master mouse and some nice 60% mechanical keyboard and backpack for lap. :)
To be honest I would use laptop for internet and keep my desktop PC for gaming.
Specification of this laptop are great. Better than some pre-build configurations with i7-6700.
But this is hardware for someone who love laptop and mobile platform for gaming or can afford both, PC and premium laptop.
This is not only laptop, specifications are better than most desktop PC.

Next build I want small PC. But I will use mATX board for Intel EP. Smaller than that can't give me what I want.
And nice mATX case could be same or very similar size as Mini ITX with space for much more things. PCI-E SSD, second card, dedicate sound card,...

yes which is a shame.. it would stop me from buying it.. it will cripple its gaming performance and on a 17 inch screen its just plain silly..

on a screen that size 1080 would suit me fine..

Same here with my alienware 15r2. Good machine, but will be the last gaming laptop I own. I miss having a super portable machine, and spend 99% of gaming time at a desk anyway.

Desktops are just so much more flexible and configurable.

So you can always drop a 4K screen to either 1080P or 1152P - and they look great and perform well in games. 1152P is my preference.

I would want a G-Sync screen at 4K anyday - even if the GPU can't push all the pixels at native.

My worry with that laptop is that it is going to be loud and/or throttle to keep components cool. Usually there is too much of a tradeoff when the words "Gaming" and "Thin/Light/Sleek" are used together.

How is this more of an overclocking laptop than the MSI equal or Asus with watercooling?

That laptop is too thin to have enough cooling power to sustain high performance while being quiet.

The fact that I had to make an account to tell you how wrong you are infuriates me to no end.

Do you have a 980m? No? Cus I do. It is a massive POS. It is nowhere near a 970 in terms of performance and any competent person would be able to google the real world equivalent before purchasing a laptop. Which I did. It is still a pos.

Its closer to a gtx 770. Literally every single benchmarking site shows this. And so does the actual performance.

The ignorance of your post literally tells me, to tell you, to stop posting. You know absoultely nothing.

The reason why the 980M is scoring lower is because of its TDP which is capped at just 100w while the 970 is capped at 145w, if you multiply the 980m score by 1.45 you get almost exactly the same score as the 970 did.
Multiply a million times 1.45 and you get 145% as well, doesnt mean the card performs the same. except 45 percent worse. because of things. What was the point of your post?

I'd just run it at 1080p in native scaling honestly. The desktop would be the only thing 4k.

But then again, I don't care for 4k in games really...

The fact that I had to make an account to tell you how wrong you are infuriates me to no end.

Dude, he's just stating the silicon is identical, which is factual. Chill.

Multiply a million times 1.45 and you get 145% as well, doesnt mean the card performs the same. except 45 percent worse. because of things. What was the point of your post?

Maybe to emphasize that's it's 45% worse due to the TDP limit? He's agreeing with you, take a serious chill pill.

That both cards are as capable and the 980m is just limited by the stock 100W TDP which if raised to 145W like on the 970, will put it at the same performance.

This...at that screen size, 4k is...very pointless. Had to order my Dell XPS 13 custom because if you wanted a bigger HDD you had to have the higher screen size as Best Buy didn't cary a configuration like that. Not a problem though.

I never understood why in the hell you need 4K display on laptops?? Even 1080p is more than enough resolution, even for those big 17" ones.

I'll have to remember that when I cash in my $700 in store credit coupon they gave me...

...I kid... sorta. I mean the coupon is real, but they did owe me it for wrecking my mobo with a doomsday GTX 980 they somehow produced, but the fact that they owned up to it earned me some serious respect.
