I agree with the previous comments about 25% under the 1080 at stock. That seems fair and appropriate to me, considering the 380 and 600 price tags. If the gap was any closer, say 15% less, there isn't much point in getting the 1080 as you would only see a few frames per second more in most games. 25% less performance at 40% off isn't a bad deal. If it turns out closer to 20%, the card is epic. If 30%, a bit meh but still good. Waiting for reviews.

Have to wait for AIB's and see if they will option for gddr5x, and see where the clock speeds on the gpu
will be at. Clock speeds of GPU seems a little low, and am hoping its just because of refrence design.
Like to see some of the AIB partners go with GDDR5X, and maybe 1900mhz boost.

I might be wrong but somewhere I heard the 1070 will only be the regular GDDR5, only the 1080 will have the new GDDR5x ram.

step 6 ... realease crappy cards such XX50ti .

Last generation, your "crappy card such XX50ti" had a downright amazing power to performance ratio and to this day, it still has no competitor from the red team. Crappy, huh? Crappier than the XX70 and XX60's well-concealed fraud of a penchant for asymmetrical memory buses?

The one (actually two) that I still use for every day gaming
I'm only thinking about an upgrade right now, but I'd wait for something like 1060 [Ti] in an ITX-friendly package. My new rig doesn't like my MSI 750Ti Gaming because of those monstrous twin frozrs, and I'm not inclined to spend $350-$400 on an ITX version of GTX970.

GTX 1070 is nothing like the GTX 970 was, talking marketing wise. This time nvidia carefully limited (crippled) the GTX1070.
physically the 1070 is almost exactly the same as 1080 except for... :
- slower memory (GDDR5).
- full block fo SP is disabled ( 640 CUDA cores).
- power limit ( to prevent its clocks from going as high as the GTX 1080).

In general Nvidia widened the gab between the GTX *80 and the GTX *70 .
They want to make sure that the GTX1070 will never get close from the 1080 (remember GTX970 oc and GTX980) specially when overclocked. this time they dont have to screw up the memory internally they just stayed with GDDR5.

So... this is kind of bizarre:
Mfr.|Arch.|DP|HDMI
AMD|Polaris|1.3|2.0a
NVIDIA|Pascal|1.4|2.0b
The a/b of HDMI is not version numbering, but "grade." Grade "a" is more capable than grade "b."

Curious how AMD isn't supporting DP 1.4 and NVIDIA isn't supporting HDMI 2.0a. I suspect the latter is because NVIDIA doesn't support 12-bit color.

I read your post as neutral so I'd agree entirely with what you say. This is what chip makers do. They release a full chip (as such knowing the GP100 is out there too) and have that as the top part. You then make a more affordable version (normally with salvaged wafer parts that didn't quite make the cut) and make sure it's not as good as the top part.
It's called business. Fury X to Fury. Titan X to 980ti. Ironically in both cases the top part was limited to a singular design but the lower part (Fury/980ti) was allowed to be tweaked by AIB's. Nvidia pitch the top part as semi professional (oh look, Radeon Duo Pro) so it doesn't matter if the 'non-professional' 980ti exceeds it's performance.

Yeah, what the hell is thread on about anyway? Oh look, 1070 isn't as good as 1080 and it's cheaper....

Umm.. what?

That would be a nice card. Though I am guessing the 1070 / 1080 gap is going to be bigger than the 970 / 980 gap.

Give it enough time, there will be DDR3 versions on eBay .... ;-)

I'll have to agree with this and the others who have said the same thing. The 970/980 performance gap was so close that it sabotaged 980 sales. I think Nvidia learned their lesson on that quite well.

I agree that it's a big disappointing for the new NV cards to not support HDMI 2.0a. It's not a huge deal unless you're running out to a 4k TV that supports it (and most don't). Still, for a new card and the price it seems odd to not be included.

.......I know..... wishful thinking......first it was sandy bridge, then came the 970....just massive...... inexpensive......out of no where performance increases.... like while no one was looking someone snuck in and added an extra dash or two of special sauce in the mix , told no one and boom! Wonder if anyone got reprimanded or fired for that....

What a overpriced garbage card, 5 deactivated units! Seems either 16nm TSMC is garbage or Nvidia wants everyone to buy something else. This card isn't worth ~400 bucks or more, better take a used/reduced 980 Ti, it will be easily faster and only somewhat pricier.

Also they deactivated so many units on this GPU this time, that there is room for a GTX 1070 Ti - would be the first time. What a mess.
