Call me cynical but i think this "game mode" is designed purely to elevate their own uwp games and windows store platform above the likes of Steam, GOG and Origin. The fact that game mode will work better with uwp say's it all... This is their way of taking as many costumers from the other platforms as they can and i'm sure it will be reflected in any future "games run better on windows store" advertising.

hopefully Steam can work out a way to work with the "Game mode" API and inject it's own game profiles as necessary.

People will whine on and on because even joe moron public is now aware of the Surveillance undertaken by the likes of Google microsoft and national Goverments

Those examples never hit the public consciousness like the Surveillance of win 10 ( and 7./8.1 ) or the Super Tracking Cookie that defy's Deletion
or Government oversight of the Internet

I still think those are way worse.

Why do you have such a problem with people who have a problem with privacy intrusion? Just because you don't feel violated doesn't mean everyone else should see it your way.

You would do well to realize that you are being naive and quite uneducated when it comes to personal rights and privacy.
@Fx : My issue isn't that I have a problem with people who care. My issue is that people who care seem to lack long-term memory. As @dorsetknob and @R-T-B noted, Intel ME and AMD PSP are much more powerful surveillance/privacy intrusion measures that have been out for a while and any outrage over those seems to have faded due to lack of public consciousness. Yet most of us use CPUs with Intel ME/AMD PSP embedded and don't seem to mind. So people complaining about Windows 10 spyware when they're using a Intel ME/AMD PSP CPU means either hypocrisy, willful ignorance, or short-term memory. As an adherent of Hanlon's Razor, I'm choosing to go with the last one.

(By the way, if you have no idea what Intel ME and/or AMD PSP are, do yourself a favour and look them up.)

The pointless whine here... can we have ANY news about W10 where you don't go into privacy and smartass memes?
My thoughts exactly!

People's privacy was gone way before windows 10 came out.

I however welcome the idea of a game mode, and everyone wants to piss n moan about it?

"Then don't use it" Simple enough o_O

Edit @W1zzard I posted this 10 hrs ago with your new IOS app but it showed it sent but not till I fired up my android and seen my post was greyed out from not being sent from my ipad ... Bug perhaps?

Personally, I'm just opposed to all of it. But as noted, this is OT now.

I still don't understand.. Why isn't the OS doing this in the first place?

Honestly I thought it did, previous versions of Windows had a toggle that let you switch between optimising for foreground processes or for background processes. When they removed it I assumed they just made the FG prio the default.

I don't know what the talk is in this thread about Windows 7 updates. I'm on W7 and I have 0 problems with Windows updates. It's working better than ever. The updates are more rare now and come in 100MB+ packs, which is much better than before. What maybe people fail to see is that the updates are not a feature but a necessity. I for one will be very happy when they will make W7SP2 and then just release very few critical updates after it. Updates do nothing for me, it's just a waste of time, the less they are the better...

I've had issues updating for many months now. However, I just need to wait a bit (2 or 3 weeks generally), and the update won't fail.

On the other hand, I've had to reinstall Windows 7 on a relative's computer and Windows Update wouldn't update at all. Nothing from MS helped, so I resorted to using a non MS tool that I read about on... stackexchange. Thanks, Microsoft.

On the face of it I'm all for more performance but can see this disabling background processes and breaking monitoring and overlay programs like afterburner etc.

Honestly I thought it did, previous versions of Windows had a toggle that let you switch between optimising for foreground processes or for background processes. When they removed it I assumed they just made the FG prio the default.

So, it looks like a lot of people aren't grokking how this feature works. It isn't disabling background services, it isn't shutting down programs, and it isn't going to break anything.

What's happening here is that Microsoft is parking programs, services, and every other process on certain cores. Borderlands on cores 0-5, and every other program on cores 6-7, for example. It'll give the game exclusive access to the cores its assigned to without any other background process being run on it, which may help with performance. Nothing is being shut down. It's really just them changing the behaviour of the scheduler while you're running a game.

Of course, being a generic setup that is intended to run across everything, there's no way to configure how many cores Windows may reserve for Game Mode, or how many cores must be left open for specific applications that might run alongside it. Perhaps the feature will get better in future versions of Windows 10, if enough feedback is submitted about the feature.

Since when does "optimising for foreground processes" imply any of that? Read before quoting dude.

Optimising for foreground processes really just means you're giving a foreground process a higher priority. You can do that manually inside task manager, or even set something to real-time if you like to live on the wild side. Game Mode is reserving cores for a single purpose, which is very different. Intel has something similar for Broadwell-E, but it changes core affinity and application priority, it doesn't exclusively set aside a core in order to run whatever the app is at maximum performance.

Man, you just have to update windows update itself to the newest version. From here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-7-and-windows-server-2008-r2-march-2016

After you do that it works...

I wish it were that simple. Trust me, I've read pages upon pages of troubleshooting that issue... to no avail. I've installed all them KB files... Still, no dice.

Download that update. The one in the link, not others you have installed. Try it, then tell me if it works or not...

I have already tried that ages ago, and it didn't solve my problem. Anyway, let's leave it at that not to pollute this thread any further.

Well that update is not from "ages ago" and I was talking about this specific update:
(KB3138612), not others you might find in your google searches but I see you are unwilling to try anything to resolve this issue so let's leave it at that...

Chill, man. No need to get mad because you didn't manage to find the solution. The world will keep going round...

So, I said "ages ago" because, to me, almost a year ago is that when it comes to computers:https://www.dropbox.com/s/7d8o8jf99bny3mx/KB3138612.PNG?dl=0

So yeah, I have that KB installed, I reinstalled it when first witnessing my update issues, to no avail. Like I said before though, we're polluting this thread with these off-topic comments, so let's stop doing it. That being said, you are, of course, more than welcome to discuss the issue to your heart's content with me via PM.
