Microsoft Confirms Upcoming "Game Mode" on Windows 10 "Creators" Update

Sounds interesting, but too bad I'm not updating my OS to this particular build. This sounds like those generic gimmicks for "boosting" low end PC rigs... aka *cough*IOBit Game Booster*cough* If your rig is powerful enough to run ANY demanding games without breaking a sweat, I don't see the benefits of using Game Mode at all.

I don't support dirty practices and Windows 10 has it's fair share, but I also recognize that Windows 7 is on "extended support" and was always scheduled to be. I fully expected more bugs to come your way at this point, and you should have too.

What I don't appreciate is "cute" comments about how all "Windows 10 users are beta testers" when we are ALL suffering from microsofts elimination of their q&a department, not just Windows 10 users. Windows 7 users just do that suffering with more privacy and a much less up to date kernel.

Right there with you. I'm running 10 Pro on my HTPC. I image before any updates. At first, I let updates take place automatically on that PC, but after one update left my screen completely black with only the mouse cursor showing, I restored an image, and then went into the policy editor and shut off windows update.

I really do not think it should be necessary to take such extreme action, but I have had other problems with updates, too, such as breaking my shared WiFi, breaking automatic hibernation, over-writing a registry entry that I customized to enable caller ID, and a few other things, too.

I also know a co-worker who has, multiple times, spent several days undoing updates. This is not the way for M$ to win business customers especially if an update brings down all the PCs in a company.

If M$' updates become reliable again, I'll turn automatic updates back on.

I also know what it is like to be on an extended service OS as I have one PC still running XP x64 - that computer is fast becoming obsolete to me more so because of hardware, but it still gives me the impression that it runs far faster than any succeeding OS - in part, because it does not have all the cutesy stuff that is useless, IMO.

M$ has really got to do something about the reliability of their updates for 10. It is as bad as it was back in the days of Windows 3.1, and Windows NT when updates could reliably be counted on to make PCs unusable.

It may be of help to folks that don't know their way around an OS.....Like if it changes CPU power state to High Performance, makes sure there is no full scans going on......If it just takes care of a few common sense things that a knowledgeable person of an OS would do before gaming would be great for that type of use (that's the majority of users).
