NVIDIA "Pascal" and AMD "Vega" Graphics Card Prices Sizzle Stateside

Over the 2018 International CES week, prices of performance-segment and high-end graphics card prices have taken flight on US-based online retailers. Prices of the recently-launched GeForce GTX 1070 Ti ($380-ish launch price) cards are touching, $900; those of the GTX 1080 (non-Ti) are over the $1,000-mark, while the GTX 1080 Ti is out of stock in many places. Prices of the GTX 1060 series is still under the $300-mark, but are beginning to rise. AMD's Radeon RX Vega family is either out of stock, or over the $1,000-mark. A combination of crypto-currency mining craze, coupled with reports of graphics card prices rising over 2018 could be behind this rally.

Well, this just convinced me to hold off until "1180 Ti" comes out. If I'm gonna jump for an improvement over 980 Ti, it better feel like it's worth every dollar.

if you have 1070 just sell it for 1000$ now, replace it with GT 1030 or something or set it to mining. 1050Ti earned me 0.24 ETH so far 2 months, If it keeps going up I will be getting GTX 2080Ti in SLI for free.

Lol, you have to be insane to buy 1070Ti for that money. That's how much I paid for my beefed up AORUS 1080Ti lol. I guess I made the right decision to snap a new graphic card in summer 2017...

Well, I have a MSI GTX 1070 Gaming and I bought it just a month from its release in May 2016. I Took the risk and paid USD481 on amazon.

What does this have to do with CES, it's great, lots of news posts and videos coming in, Q4 2017 was boring as hell, pretty much most of the year after Ryzen and Covfefe Lake launched.

The price hike had to do more with availability I guess. GPU shipments should really drop, but that's impossible with mining being a thing.

It's OK for people that already have decent graphics cards, and obviously sucks for those that want to get into gaming.

I haven't even been able to test the GTX 1060 6GB that I have. I'm probably fine for a while if I or anyone else is gaming on 1080p anyways. It's not like there's a big game release in Q1 or even Q2 other than Far Cry 5.

Still I can't shake the feeling that the so called "mid-range" GPUs aren't 200 dollar launch price anymore. They're going to be for 300 in the future. WTF...

All the new big games will be announced at e3 in June 2018 my 1080 will run anything for the next few years I should be ok even if I do upgrade to amd at the end of the year

I got my 2x 1070ti's right from nvidia for a good price in Nov. Glad I got them then.

Fingers crossed that mining tanks. I can only hope these companies start losing money due to garbage prices and/or they start locking gaming cards out of mining.

Good to know there's enough of a Desktop market to sell ton of High end CPU/Mobo's that don't want/need memory or graphics cards... The market for replacement of mundane home use computers for emails, browsing, general digital photo's is looking highly exuberant for 2018.
