NVIDIA Readying GeForce RTX 3090 SUPER, A Fully Unlocked GA102 with 400W Power?

I'd like to see a 3060 Super.

The difference between a 3060 and 3060 Ti is too big with 1000 CUDA Cores.
Have you bothered to even look at the prices of those cards? The MSRP is only $70 difference between the 3060 TI and 3060 so where in the heck would a 3060 super fit in?

Da...fuq? 50W for 250 shaders and 60 GBps?

Hi there leftovers with shite OC potential.

:rockout::laugh:

In fact what I take from their first SUPER announcement is that the SUPER line up for Ampere will contain higher TDPs for every tier in the stack. These GPUs aren't better, they're possibly just bigger and binned lower all the way. Fully unlocked yes, but don't ask how. This release is really a step back in efficiency going by stock metrics.

Nice Samsung node says hi again, and again, not even with a ten foot pole will I touch this power hog crap. Not paying the Nv premium just to get a worse chip, its TSMC or bust.
Nvidia has likely been collecting full GA102 chips and using the remaining with defects for lower tier cards, they were saving the non defective full chips for a 3090 Super variant. GPU makers, even more now, are going to maximize the use of all chips, including defective chips for lower tire products. Making these chips in the first place is crazy expensive either so no need to whine about how costly they are because in a couple of years you will have mid-range cards that will have 3090 super performance for a lot less cost than is the case right now.

400W, this is out of control. Some of these prebuilt PCs can no longer be shipped to some states because they use too much estimated power per year.

Nvidia releases a halo top tier product that is at the upper limit of what this architecture and node can do and the supposed enthusiasts on TPU complain that it is too inefficient, expensive, and will be scalped. Thank you team obvious.

We already know that the 3070 is around the sweet spot with the best performance per watt. Did anybody expect a top tier halo product to be affordable scalpers or no scalpers? No they did not. Do you complain that a Lamborghini is too expensive too?

This card is cool. I will enjoy looking at the benchmarks like I enjoy seeing an F1 race. I will never be able to afford one of these nor do I care, that isn't the point. This card is a powerhouse and is exciting from an enthusiasts perspective.

I think the headroom on any overclocking on this card is small without any form of exotic cooling, and power spikes of over 600 to 900w are'nt a exception. This is a big chip. And TGP is something different then TDP.

Innovation and doing more with less is definitely out the window here. I certainly wouldn't call this a gaming card, and I wouldn't want to use it for renders. The 350 watts+ with current 3090s is overboard as it is, let alone adding another 50+ watts to it for laughably insignificant performance gains, unless you're interested in gaining heat inside of the case.

Maybe they'll put a sticker or logo of a cross between Jensen Huang & Lerm on it from Squidbillies saying, "Death to Power Supplies!" or "Death to Case Cooling!". Does your money really want to go that way?

It's only marginally better.

The memory stays the same at 24GB so I see no reason to upgrade if you have 3090 already.

Oh my, this must be that uber, mucho top secret card I heard about a while back, the one that was developed in collaboration with the folks that build those compact matter-antimatter power plants that can fit in your garage or back yard....

all you have to do is pay the $100MM for the power unit & they promise to throw in a GPU (or 12) for free..... hehehehehehe

The 3090 is 20% better than the 3080 on the spec sheet and then 10% better at most in actual games. This 3090 Super is going to be 2-3% better than the 3090 most likely. And they'll probably sell it for MSRP $2000, so $4k on Ebay if you actually want one.

As long as AMD is not able to catch up, it will go on and on and on. Last Christmas I got a 6900XT, and this June I switched back to Nvidia because of the Driver/UV/LGOLED VRR. I had so much trouble with the Big Navi card, from Framelimiter not working, to color switches when tabbing between programs, crashes in idle, freesync flicker with a Dell S3220DGF, not working Freesync with an Asus VG27AQ till an driver update.
Nvidia: put it in - everything works.

AMD may have nice hardware, but it's software is not competitive. This enables Nvidia to get away with its pricing and lies (Titan will be the fastest card, 3090 will not be replaced by a 3090s).
Perhaps Intel will be able to break things up in this market.

Another card which is out of PCI-E specs with its over 300W consumption. Also why it's not called as a Titan as its pricing (like 3090 already) will surely be in the "Titan-range"?

I just don't see Intel making any kind of headway into the gaming market in regards to graphics vs. AMD & NVidia unless the current market crisis results in a fragmentation of the gaming industry away from AMD and NVidia.
Its unlikely but still a very real possibility if those two giants don't start taking more proactive steps to keep their products more reasonably priced by their merchants/distributors. In the short term it doesn't affect them because they already sold the cards before they ever get into our hands; but in the long term, if more disgruntled customers start finding other alternatives, AMD & NVidia might as well hand over the gaming market to Intel on a silver platter.

Yet another pointless launch...
Yeah, you would think they would lay off the production of superfluous nonsense and focus on producing more of a few select lower-mid-higher tier cards. Where NVidia sees variety/diversity in their card lineups, I just see stupidity.

I, for one, am very skeptical about this. First, why would they remove the NVLink capability? It was already only present on the 3090 to begin with, the 3080 didn't have it and the 3080 Ti followed suit. The 21 Gbps claim also seems to be on the verge of exaggeration - the 3090 already shipped with 21 Gbps memory modules, being higher spec than the 19 Gbps bin used on the 3080 (and since then, the 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti as well). 21 Gbps is the wall of memory speed for the GA102, my card can do a grand total of ~21.5 Gbps before it carks and the graphics begin to scramble, meaning that this eventual SUPER variant would have absolutely zero memory overclocking headroom. Then there's the yield, full GA102 dies with all 84 SMs enabled are significantly more difficult to get, and the much more expensive A6000 demands them already.

400W of reference board power? I think they stuck to 350 on the 3090 for a reason... (heat, if anyone's wondering), and there's the other thing. This SKU would undoubtedly be LHR, too, which means the miners would simply coop up all of the remaining vanilla 3090 stock, making its price balloon even higher and this card, relegated to a strictly gaming processor, unable to satisfy the demands of the extreme enthusiasts who still want to play around with multi-GPU rendering (as it lacks the NVLink port) and devoid of any workstation features or particularly endowed niche compute capabilities (i.e. FP64) - would then remain utterly overpriced in a niche so isolated, that it'd make the Titan V and the Titan RTX look like they were intended for the common guy.

Besides, let's take an objective look at the rest of the stack. Where are they going to add SUPER variants of other cards? They won't. The GA104 is already maxed out in the 3070 Ti, the 3080 is an amazing SKU for them to dump highly defective GA102 dies (given it has only 68 out of 84 units enabled), the 3070 already satisfies its segment and the 3060 Ti is already within 15% of it fulfilling the slot right below... the highest SM count difference remaining is between 3080 (68) and the 3080 Ti (80), a 3080 Super could be released with say, 72 or 74 SM, but that would have to be priced lower than the Ti, would basically cannibalize two SKUs, have zero market sense...

I'm prepared to call the Ampere stack finished, myself.
