Early Halo 3 Limited Edition Owners Plagued by Scratched Discs

A report coming from NeoGAF gaming forum unveils that the Limited Edition casing of Halo 3 has some design issues, that may lead to a damaged DVD media. Unlike the regular Xbox 360 green game boxes, the Halo 3 Limited Edition ships in a black tin box with center hubs too shallow to adequately hold the DVDs in place. As a result, consumers may find discs that have been freely floating around inside the box that have been scratched up by the very hub that was supposed to keep them in place. So far, reports of scratched discs apply only to the $69.99 Limited Edition, but not to the $59.99 Standard Edition or the $129.99 Legendary Edition.

A friend just opened 3 copies of Halo 3 Limited Edition and with all three copies both disc were loose inside of the package and scratched to death,

lol, did the idiots even look at the design when they made the case? There's no clips to hold the disc in place. They might as well have shipped it in a manila envelope.

That disc looks like it's maybe even cracked on the far right of the pic.

The foam keeps the disk from spinning and wobbling, the little plastic nub is all that holds the disk in place.




Too bad this is the case, if it's really a common problem (and his shipment wasn't just battered around), I have a feeling the launch day will be bittersweet for many....


And is it just me or is the dvd art kindof poor.... I was expecting something more like the book next to it or a cleaner version of the same picture.

This is a sad day but its nothing a little disc cleaner can't fix after all.

From the scratches that I see on the disc I have seen way worse on discs that I have fixed before

I'd blame whomever (Microsoft or Bungi) picked the Chinese contractor to package the discs. I bet we'll read about how the executive manager of the packaging company disappeared/hung himself/shot himself/went to jail for life/etc.

all bbefore the game is even officially released. For all we know this could have only affected the first small batch of Halo 3 Limited Edition disc holders before it was fixed. You won't know until the mass market gets its hands on it.

I just bought the Limited Edition and they have not Fixed the Problem
Not only that, but microsoft is pushing the sales even though they know about it
I'm returning the game tomorrow and getting my money back
I can wait a couple of month for the new batch of the normal version to come

Well, I see this as a Microsoft blunder and the lack of quality control.
They hire Bungie to produce the game, and whomever to package the game, Microsoft I am sure had a sample of the finished product and I guess from what we are seeing did nothing about the case.

If this assessment is true I can only guess that MS were thinking....we can't afford delays...... delays equate to lost revenue. Now we have a defective product, from within the case. This is to bad, and I hope is isolated.

Ok just got my limited edition Halo3 and my disc was also rattling around, but no scratches. After putting the disc back in its little plastic holder I can safely say that thing is not the problem. It holds it tight. I tried slamming it and slapping it a few times while it was in the holder and it doesn't budge at all. I'd the the real problem is that whoever was putting the disc in the case didn't put it in all the way. when you make sure its in there securely its not going anywhere. So they don't need new cases, just need to make the people packaging them make sure to put it in securely.
