AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core Processor Price Drops to $600

Pricing of AMD's Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core/32-thread "Zen 3" processor dropped to a surprising all-time-low of $600 on Newegg, down from its original $800, a 25% drop in price. This puts the 5950X more or less on par with the pricing of the Intel Core i9-12900K (±$20 variance). The 12-core/24-thread 5900X is going for $450, which is still significantly higher than the $380 that the Core i7-12700K commands.

The 5950X continues to lead the i9-12900K in various heavily multi-threaded productivity tasks, although it has lost the gaming performance edge to the new Intel chip. AMD is attempting to remedy this with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D processor that the company claims offers gaming performance parity, but will fall behind in multi-threaded productivity on account of fewer cores. This one hell of a deal if someone is plans to upgrade. This CPU is a beast! However, I would not recommend it if someone is building from scratch. This is the end for this glorious socket.

I just paid $300 USD for a 12400 and motherboard. I saw a USED 5900X plus motherboard (high end) for $550 and it was very tempting. 5950X is still hard to get on the used market.

I purchased my current Mobo from mdcomputers and my Crucial Ballistix RAM from Primeabgb.

At least the Intel ADL CPU prices are reasonable here when compared to the US market prices but the AMD CPU prices are still way out even at the above mention online retailers.

In Canada Canada Computers has the the 5950X for $739 after coupons. That is $865 with tax. The 5900X is the best deal though $519 plus tax $587 so not even $600. The 5600X is $269.99 with coupon.

Not everyone builds computers to they can be upgraded every 2 years. A 5950x build should last a decade at this rate.

I finished my 5950x rig a few months ago, knowing that AM4 and DDR4 is at its end. My previous i7-4790k system lasted 6 years, I hope this lasts about the same. I believe building a system like that is a good move because despite it being the end of AM4/DDR4 nothing else really beats it. Yet.

Not everyone builds computers to they can be upgraded every 2 years. A 5950x build should last a decade at this rate.

I was on that 2 year cycle many years ago but it isn't needed these days unless you have money to burn. We are no longer using single or dual core pc's with 2GB of ram, My i7-970 with 12GB of ram lasted me about 10 years. And I would like to get atleast 5 years out of my current system so I may skip Zen 4 and go Zen 5. Unless I see an outstanding deal where I can flip parts to cut the cost I will probably stay put.

Nope. Until Newegg shows meaningful change to how they do business, I don't care if they drop the price of this by half... they aren't getting my money. The only thing that Newegg understands is money and the only way to hurt them is to hurt them where it matters most... their sales numbers.

Asus started factory sealing their mother boards so at least you know it's not used and resold as new now.

The only boards I buy are those not available anywhere else. The example I would use is the MSI X570 Ace. While everyone had the Prestige for $899 that was $399 CAD. It was actually the cheapest board wired as such. Having said that I use Amazon for most boards but Canada Computers sometimes has good deals and are up the street from where I live.

Ended up buying a asus apex when it came instock knowing it was a factory sealed box at newegg
Then returned the formula and saved 200.us in the process.

You got it. I can't speak for Newegg USA but it would seem in Canada they are pretty good with returns too. The issue I have is with Asus is their draconian return policy.
