NVIDIA is finally coming around to launching its top-of-the-line GeForce RTX 3090 Ti "Ampere" graphics card on March 29, 2022, according to a source on the ChipHell community, cited by Wccftech. The same source also mentions that NVIDIA has dropped the idea of releasing a 16 GB variant of the performance-segment GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, which means the company is possibly wrapping up the its RTX 30-series "Ampere" product-stack updates going into Spring-Summer, so it could prepare for its next-generation RTX 40-series based on the "Ada Lovelace" graphics architecture, with mid-year announcements followed by product launches in the second half of 2022.

We don't need a 3090ti. We want a 3070 16GB. Get on it and quit being so thick...
Is there an actual need for a 16 GB version of a 3070?

That aside, yes, I think most people would rather like for Nvidia to use their available capacity to make more 3070s than 3090s

For some non-gaming uses and for some future proofing in gaming, yes.

Before anyone starts the argument of "Games don't need 16GB", you are welcome to your opinions. I don't care. Think what you want.

I for one would have welcomed even 12 GB on this 3070 but it is what it is.

I hope the 4070 and above finally start getting 12 GB+ of VRAM because, good God Nvidia.

I find it strange them releasing a 3090ti just for it to be canned at the end of the year.

Yep, most definitely. I run into VRAM issues, especially with Cyberpunk. I guess that is where my stuttering comes from, sigh.

Forza Horizon 5 will give you a low VRAM warning on a RTX 3070 running at 3440x1440. Other than that is the RTX 3070 perfectly capable of running that game.

4070 is getting 12GB on a 192 bit bus. so the go to card is 4070 Ti 16, or 4080.

Reminds me of the OG Titan where the most expensive flagship was sold as a cut-down card, then they released a card (Titan Black) with a full chip.

Okay, all I cared about is Nvidia finally upping the vram, so that when I get a new GPU in a few years time it'll have 12 GB or more. I will skip RTX 40. My 3070 is still fine for my activity of watching YouTube 24/7, don't even care for AAA titles. As long as it runs my 90's games fine, it's good.

HD Texture Packs usually puts it above 8GB for sure.
Poorly optimized, larger, game mods will touch 24GB+, and on an 8GB card, load time is ridiculous.

I started to play crysis again well I first started with the orginial but man the performance in SLI sucked so I tried Crysis remastered. The performance rocked but the game sucked. No Save features and suit as horrible. Went back to Orginial spent couple hours tweaking all the settings and finally used the warhead exe files and got it to run SLI smooth at 200 to 300 fps. running 4k

Games won't use more memory than the maximum memory available on a card the market.

So we can say for sure, No, Games don't require 32 GB to run. But, if in the next generation, there are many cards with 16+ and up to 32 GB like they announced, it's quite possible that game will start using up to 32 GB.

Since most medium high end cards next gen will be 12+ GB, it's quite possible that 16 GB will be used in games.

If there is a 3070 16 gig, this will be a very strange GPU generation for nvidia with VRAM capacity all over the place.

True. But when game assets can't fit inside VRAM, the game has to load more from storage, then system RAM, then swap out in VRAM. Such a sequence can take a lot of time and needlessly slows down the system and thus the game. More VRAM means that such a process happens less frequently.

So once again, and say it with me folks and shout it loud: Where RAM is concerned, THE MORE THE MERRIER! This is ALWAYS TRUE!

If there is a 3070 16 gig, this will be a very strange GPU generation for nvidia with VRAM capacity all over the place.
Let's face facts, life has been weird for the last few years and NVidia has been trying to manage things in a very chaotic state of the world.

(i bet they read these comments too)
Actually, they do. They(and most of all the other companies) have staff that actively lurk forums like these, and specifically TPU. There are even professional trolls that join in making trouble and spreading disinformation.
