Like my last line suggests, it has an older PCIe 3.0 interface compared to Ryzen 5600 and up.
Well, for people on B450 who wants a fairly cheap upgrade this is not really an issue, our motherboards limit us to PCIe Gen 3 in the first place. Personally I'm inclined to agree with Tom's Hardware conclusions about these parts being mostly attractive for people on older Ryzen systems who want to upgrade.

You're right, but I'm talking about buying an all new budget platform, which I've already pointed out twice.

I was talking about an all new system, and that's my whole point.

But yeah, I didn't pay attention to this -->

View attachment 242487

Which I by now guess was your way of saying less than three.
That was the forum code changing my PCIE< 3 to   need to remember those old school emojis /s :roll:

Hopefully no OEM's would pair a Ryzen 5500/b550 and a 6500 XT and most DIY builders would hopefully be aware of the issues with the 6500 XT, this should be a fairly rare occurrence but again, I place the blame squarely at the puny 4x PCIE lanes of the 6500 XT and not at the 5500, I guess they are both gimped, though the 6500 XT more-so

My bad, I have to admit that I didn't read the topic all the way down before replying. I would agree that for a new build the 5500 and 6500 XT make for a bad combination. I guess that unfortunately uninformed people making bad purchases are a direct consequence of a more segmented lineup that mixes quite different parts (monolitich Cezanne APUs without an iGPU and Vermeer CPUs).

450 is abit steep for the 5800X3D, but hopefully it will sell for a bit less in the future...
Just grab a 5800 OEM for 262 like I did

That's today only though, tomorrow should be £389 again
If it's reduced to that today, expect prices to come down, they always have "today only" deals on which become the norm, still today only is still pretty damn good, lowest price ever?

That's a good deal for someone with an AMD board that's looking to upgrade.

Tis a good price, they will have sold some today i'm sure.
I've noticed a trend since Alder Lake was released. Most of the upgrades are AMD and the majority of new builds are Intel.

The 5700X isn't going to be a big seller here, as it costs exactly the same as the 5800X costs now...

@btarunr

B450, x470, a320, x370, b350, ece. Any of these platforms will be 3.0 limited, and any of them using a 1200, 1400, 1600, ece CPU would see a massive jump in performance going to a 5500. Anyone building or upgrading a 4.0 platform would be better suited to grab the 5600 or 5700x.

5700X will end up being sold for less then and sel more since it will work on all boards with its lower power draw. My 5c.
The difference between the 5800x and 5700x in power draw will be almost non existent IRL. If your board couldnt handle a 5800x then your board, frankly, is total dogshit. the 1800x and 2700x were more power hungry then the 5800x is under most workloads, and would have been current for older boards.

I am amazed Newegg didnt jack up pricing for these.

Also amazed that 5900X is $449 there...

o_O:wtf:
the 5900x is a major temptation, if I could get a new GPU I'd probably buy one and chance my crosshair board to see if I could make it all work together properly.

Since the power limit in most boards for the 5800X is 142W (from 105W) and for 5700X is 88W (from 65W), many boards that cost below $120 could suffer from 5800X during the hot months of the year. My 5c.

300 series don't apply in the first place, 5500 is a Cezanne part with disabled graphics and even those 300 series motherboards that have received updates to run Vermeer (and Renoir) still can't run Cezanne. I didn't mention the X470 because I kind of assume that people using a high end motherboard, albeit an older one, are probably interested in getting a better CPU.

This.

It's easy to assume that Cezanne will run on anything that works with Vermeer, but that's not the case.

What's wrong with the 5500? ok less caches, though £30 cheaper than the 5600 non x and still Zen 3 cores, it costs the same as my 4 year old Ryzen 1500x did when I bought it, so is an ideal upgrade for cheapskate, 1st and 2nd gen users
Waiting for W1zz to start including the Ryzen 1700 in reviews so I can determine if it’s worth
Upgrading. ;)

5500 is close or a bit faster than 3600. So, since 3600 has ceased production that is the successor and will get close to $150 sooner than later me thinks.

interesting i found some 5600G 5700X in stock at interesting prices ... (5700X @ less than 235$ ) already

well i was looking at a 5600X before as a potential upgrade for my 3600 later and it was 299chf  i guess the 5700X will do,
as i do not need the 3DV, Zen 3 are plenty already for day to day usage and no games or software i use should be too much for standard one, well even the 3600 do well ... although it was a temporary solution gifted by a friend (and a bloody good one)
but taking a 5700X at that price would mean : that mobo/CPU total price 100chf cheaper than a 12700K
