NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 isn't a Rebadged RTX 4080 12GB, To Be Cut Down

Nvidia did a full spreadsheet with all the models, performance and prices. They did it when the cryptomining was still a thing, and the did it several times afterwards. And they're still doing them, on the go.

They know they own the market. Even if AMD turns out with better price/performance cards, they can't make enough of them to really matter. And scalpers are going to be great levellers of the game now.

And why all the clusterfuck with announcing RTX 4080 12GB, and unannouncing it afterwards? Well, marketing departments are apparently getting so responsive now we see their reactions in almost real time. Don't worry, it will be us, buyers that will pay for all the rebadging and repackaging.

Remember, Turing released with zero price/performance increase compared to Pascal. All you had was a promise of RTX abd DLSS - and it took a long time to be at least partially fulfilled, and only the top end really had a semi-useful ray-tracing capability.

And now you have a frame doubling promise. Even if it really increases the latency, works only in high FPS (again limiting it to top end cards), and introduces very noticeable artifacts (moving GUI elements being hit the worst).

Enough to sell a 4080 16GB for $1200, RTX 4070 for north of $700? Only we, the buyers, will decide that. But that doesn't mean Nvidia has to change the price. They can remain expensive, show falling quarterly revenues, and bitch about the backstabbing gamers for years.

And wait for the real customers. Next crypto wave. Which their not-so-secret crypto department is surely planning.

Looking at the coment section, looks like Huang succeeded to fool everyone, first he released 4070(4080 12gb) for $900 and now cancel it to release 4070 ($700?) with lower specs cause the full 104 will be 4070ti and now everyone is grateful for the 40% price bump over 3070 while the performance will be less than 3080 which was $700 2 years ago.

To be fair, Nvidia has such a solid buyer base of people who would never ever consider having another brand in their PCs, and always buy the latest, highest-end model they can afford, that they (Nvidia) really don't need to be cheap. They can keep on selling their BS at whatever price they demand because someone will always buy it. Just like Apple.

AMD on the other hand...

I'm not sure about the crypto mining part, though, now that Etherum turned into PoS.

MLID doesn't do "reports". They only speculate out loud stuff that seems logical to the average viewer. Tbh after their Arc "report" everyone should just ignore this "source" forever.

This is exactly what I meant a few comments before!

This is the new Nvidia recipe:
1. Launch a new line of products based only on defective chips and brag about how fast they are.
2. Wait until everybody bought into the BS.
3. Launch the Ti line with fully enabled chips a year later so that people can praise your goodness and pay for the same shit again.
4. Don't spend any money on the lower end. Just give the f***ers the most defective chips you have available for slightly marked down prices.
5. Rinse and repeat.

The 4080 12 GB might have been cancelled due to bad PR. Or maybe it was cancelled to be released later as the "now fully enabled" GA104 as an upgrade over the regular 4070.

It appears the real economy is what drove/drives crypto shenanigans. Here, we see the exact same trend as we see in the real economy: free money is gone, interest is going up, inflation is going up, money needs to move to necessity instead of fun coins to speculate with. In brief: there isn't anything to speculate with rather quickly. And we all know: don't invest money you can't lose.

Look (in Dutch, it says: move to BLOX, we're closing)

And, its immediate. In three phases they're locking services, withdrawals until 19 dec or something and then its done.

So they will release a 4070 (regular) with maybe 7168 cuda cores at $799 and then re-release the 4070Tie at $899 ?

Matter of fact, if we can get a statement to keep TPU clean of nonsensical Youtuber bullshit I will up my Supporter status at least one tier. Yes, I happily pay to remove the relevance of these bottom feeders.

Or maybe... if I start a Youtube channel where I talk about confirmed rumours from reputable sources (including the way the wind blows my hair, the kitchen, and Joe from work), can I get featured on the headline? :D

It's not just that. Even if we suppose it's slightly faster (which I don't think it is), the 5700 XT eats more power, has driver issues, and also heat problems depending on the model in question. I know, I had one.

Its good for perspective, I'm not on TV am I ;)

Another thing good for perspective is how outrage culture works in practice. Time is an interesting factor. My problem isn't with the guy, but with the overall idea that Youtubers are somehow newsworthy by the way. Look at all the similarities to the majority of other 'tubers, I'd say. I really dgaf what others think, but maybe you missed that in my posting on TPU so far.

Its all, only, ever about clicks because they generate ad revenue. Your lens needs adjustment.

That's what I've been hearing after every crypto crash, we've been through this several times. Markets, banks have burned before. Unless it completely disbands, it's going yo come back - and people are actually promoting this volatility as an opportunity - do you have the skil to catch the wave at it's lowest, cash in on the top, and invest in the next crash? It won't be quick, maybe it will take longer than two years after 2018 crash due to economy, but it will come back.

And people have been mining other coins than Ethereum even before the fork, and they will surely find the replacement when the next crypto wave comes. That's not really a problem. And relative smallness of all those coins can be also seen as an opportunity - Bitcoin and Etheteum were big, they went up or down with the whole cryptomarket. Smaller coins have bigger potential, they can go "to the moon"!

Nvidia removing all "hardware" mining limitations through drivers is clear sign, that they are ready for another round of crypto roller-coaster. Right now would be the perfect time to cut ties with it, and they are marketing just the oposite.

It was enough for me to watch the Arc A770 reviews of what I call "the big four".

JayZtwoCents was factual, which is weird, as they do all the crazy experimental stuff on mostly Nvidia GPUs.
Linus loved it and urged gamers to think about getting one despite its initial flaws.
Gamer's Nexus and Hardware Unboxed shat all over it because it only did 120 FPS in CS:GO.

Youtubers have no news value to me whatsoever. All they aim for is views, which they only get for clickbait stuff. TPU is where the real news is, but when we have full-blown articles about MLID... I don't know.

So NV is not giving up. Now all those YT channels should revert the words, NV listened to gamers about the 4080 12GB. Apparently not. They are just gonna wait till everything cools down and release it for $1k :D

I can smell a "cheap" 4070 coming with a severely cut-down chip for $700, then a 4070 Ti with the same config as the 4080 12 GB would have been for $850. And then, Jensen won't understand why isn't everybody happy.

It really puzzles me how Nvidia doesn't have a well-thought out plan for the whole product stack before the launch of the flagship the way AMD and Intel do.
can you explain what is wrong with you? 4070 for $700 is cheap now? This is what NV wanted to achieve with the price bumps. Now people consider mid range card for $700 cheap.
It is so easy to manipulate people, maybe I should really consider doing it myself. They don't have a thought out plan because they are an opportunistic company. They will adjust on the way to make the price as high as possible.

That's why I used quotation marks. "Cheap", not cheap. ;)

Nvidia will feed us that they've listened and lowered the price (of the cut-down version - in small print), only to sell us the original stuff with a new name for the original price.

Crypto is definitely not dead - where there is money, people will always find a way. Mining on the other hand, is a different story when the major well-established coins are all PoS.

Matter of fact, if we can get a statement to keep TPU clean of nonsensical Youtuber bullshit I will up my Supporter status at least one tier. Yes, I happily pay to remove the relevance of these bottom feeders.

Check this out, 2022: ;)

I'd pick 5700xt any day over 1080. 5700xt is much faster even though it uses a bit more power like 30w. Actually it is close to 1080Ti in performance.
HWUB did some comparisons recently and 5700xt is a way better buy. For me, 5700xt was always a better buy to be fair.

No worries. I tend to misread stuff at this hour as well, as I'm just after work (night shift). :D
