Still rocking my S8, hit the 5 year mark with it this past October. The camera on it seems like it takes better pictures than what the S21 does on my wife's phone. She's always asking me to take pictures. I haven't seen any real reason I would need to upgrade.

I've had great experience with my S8, the only thing I absolutely hate is Bixby. Thankfully the Bixby button can be set for a double press and also if you disable Bixby voice activation on my S8 it keeps Bixby from being activated. At least with the new models the past few releases it appears Samsung has dropped the physical Bixby button and there are rumors floating around that people feel Bixby might be on the way out (that would be awesome, if you ask me), but they are just rumors.

Once my S8 dies I'll probably look towards another Samsung.

The changes for the S23 and S23+ since the S20/S20+ have been pathetic. I only stuck with Samesung when looking to replace my S7, because they ran a ridiculous offer on the S21 back in 2021 which effectively discounted the phones 69%. Getting a 256GB S21 for only $400AUD frrom Samesung, was something I never thought could happen.

I'll bet the next 3 years of updates will also be jokes for the non-ultra models.

If i'm going to upgrade then the new phone should have everything mine has and better at a lower price point(tech advanced and gets cheaper), it's logical that the base models will get better year after year eventually surpassing the old "flagship´".
But on lala-samsung-land, a 5 year newer S23 has WORST SCREEN (way less resolution, something like 150ppi less), smaller screen(barely), less sensors(no iris), worse camera(no OIS on wide or telephoto), no 3.5mm jack, all that for almost TWICE the price of the s8+ back then. It's pathetic

When you get a well known product line, cut things out and keep charging the same (or more) and folks tend to continue to buy it. Not always because they want to, but because some actually do need it (old phone died and you liked how the S8 was, so you go with Samsung again).

Look at Apple - they've been changing and taking things away from their phones for years and people keep paying a premium for them. Samsung is kind of in the same boat, they built up a name with decent phones some years back so they keep trimming/adjusting/removing all while asking folks to keep paying high prices.

Yeah, it's pathetic that a 2023 flagship lineup has a friggin 1080p screen(EVEN ON THE PLUS), again my s8+ has a 2960x1440p 18.5:9 screen with 529ppi and looks perfect.
Whilst the new turds have a 19.5:9 2340x1080p screen, a greater than 100ppi difference!. ¿why would i for one second even consider this? ¿"gaming"?, F NO cellphones are not for gaming(also, take out your shiny new 1200usd phone in public transport to "play" here and you WILL get shot and/or stabbed to rob it, it's a matter of "when", not "if").

If my s8+ dies, i'll look for another brand new in box s8+ to replace it with, maybe an s9+ or s10+ if i find them at the same price i bought my s8+

Still have my Note 10+ and it's sad after 4 years they still haven't changed their design much; they removed the SD Card slot (even though there are dual sim models available, which means they have the space to add it back in), kept the screen at 6.8" but with 120hz support, same 12GB of memory, finally brought back 45W charging but it was in the Note 10+ before, better cameras but I'm not a professional so I don't care about that.

No reason at all to upgrade if your device works, Samsung hasn't innovated since the Note 8 and has only gimped their products instead of really going after Apple with a real enthusiast/professional device.

The only devices which I'd swap my Note10 for are the Ultras, as some newer and improved camera functions (periscope lens included) are something I could make use of. Getting 5G now would still be only futureproofing as in Brazil it still hasn't been truly deployed (DSS only and on limited locations).

Maybe there'll be a nice deal to get an S22U as the S23 series is released.

the s8+ does not have "fake" 1440, the panel is 1440p, but out of the box for some stupid reason the default display resolution is 2220x1080(to save battery) instead of the full 2960x1440

Ordered mine, for the first time in about as long as I can remember, it's bittersweet. I have an S21 Ultra, and over the course of 2 years it's only gotten better. Faster, smoother, more features, it's totally defying the usual trend of slowing down over time. But alas, my wife has issues with her phone now, a Oneplus 7 Pro which was also a hand me down from myself. So she wants my S21U, and I get the new S23U Gosh I like our procurement cycle where I get the new toy every 2 years and pass the old one along.

Managed to get a reasonable deal as far as AUD is concerned. RRP was $1949 for 256gb, $2249 for 512gb and $2659 for 1tb, all AUD of course. Local promo here has been teir up storage for the same cost, immediately making the 512Ggb $1949, was able to secure a further reduction of $150 so down to $1799, then they threw in a $250 e-voucher to use on accessories, so a set of buds2, a 1st party silicone case and set of screen protectors are coming too, for that $1799 price. Beyond that I'll salary package it or claim a vast majority work usage on tax, and winrar, relatively cheap and fully loaded with accessories and storage, well not 1tb but I don't need 1tb.
