No GTA 6 for PC Gamers at Launch, Rockstar Confirms

Rockstar Games has officially released a Grand Theft Auto 6 (or VI) trailer that brings together millions of GTA series fans. However, the game will remain exclusive for gaming consoles at launch. On the landing page for GTA 6, there is a note that says, "Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet. Coming 2025 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S." While the first trailer showed this, we now have written confirmation that GTA 6 is a console exclusive at launch, whenever it happens in 2025.

If long-time GTA gamers remember, the situation was very much the same with the launch of the fifth installment in the GTA series, GTA V, which got a PC port almost two years after the initial release. The GTA V was released in September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles and got an upgrade to a new console cycle in November 2014 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Only in April 2015 was the game released for Windows-based PCs, as Rockstar took its time to polish the port and make it work with PC gamers' various hardware choices. While we hope to avoid seeing such a big cadence from console to PC port, it will surely take Rockstar some extra time to make a PC version run smoothly.

I’m sad to hear that GTA 6 won’t have a PC version at launch. I was really looking forward to playing it with the best graphics and performance possible. I wonder why Rockstar decided to delay the PC release. Maybe they want to focus on optimizing the game for the consoles first, or maybe they want to avoid piracy and modding issues. Or maybe they just want to make us buy the game twice, like they did with GTA 5?

they did this with RDR2 -- I think it was fine.

Honestly it's better to get an actual polished PC port after they've had time to fix it than what the current companies are doing with their releases, and while they're polishing the PC port, if the console version is done then it doesnt make sense for them to sit on it just to burn money until the PC port is done.

Microsoft needs to bring the XBOX ecosystem closer to PC so that we can just run native xbox games without issues. Honestly having a "Game Mode" OS version of windows 11 that doesn't have all the background crap running makes a ton of sense - you can swap to that OS when you want to game and the current one hibernates, etc.

I'll admit that I contributed to the problem and bought the game 3 times... (XB 360, XB One, PC). I was young and naive

I mean…it sucks, sure, but we shouldn’t be surprised. You have a whole bunch of mods that basically “transform” GTA V and then you have FiveM. This was definitely planned lol.

But suck a fat chode R*, now I have to get a console again :( At least the PS5 “Pro” dickless edition and the Xbox Fridge X transformed into a trash bin should be released by then(which again seems like that’s part of their plan)

Understandable. Easier to polish a game on 2 predefined hardware setups than to go through a mountain of debugging related to custom setups

This whole not releasing PC games along side console versions at the start is really starting to piss me off. Im tired of places like Epic games holding on to exclusives for a year before it comes to steam, im tired of games not releasing on PC along side consoles. It is bullshit. I havent really played GTA since 4 and I was kinda looking forward to this after watching the trailer and seeing some leaks, but now they can keep the game and I probably wont be getting it at all.

wait a minute. Have you played gta5 on the ps5?. (Or are you remember the ps4 version at 30fps?
night and day difference between the ps5 GTAV and ps4 GTAV (yes the upgrade to the ps5 version is worth it, just for the 60fps mode.)

the 60fps RT mode is pretty much indistinguishable from the pc 4K version. (the ps5 version is 1440k, I won’t play the 4K version 30fps mode because has to much of a slide show look (interesting is that cp2077 RT mode is 30fps, but is playable, playing the 60fps mode is smoother but after a while I notice that “ Reality “ is missing…

the pc version at 4K is ok. it took a 7900xtx for me to realize that gta5 looks dated, because I was finally able to run it at 4K everything ultra (no MSAA, 8x MSAA with ultra settings will crash a 7900xtx that has a clock setting of 3Ghz or higher.)

it is being released in 2025?… way to long… BUT wait, I think I know why… the PS5pro is being released around NOV 15, 2024 (or one year after the ps5slim…)

This lmao, it's like, later they complain that if piracy etc etc, well then don't hold the games to one stupid store/platform lol! Not making the games for pc and only for consoles as an excuse would work 10 years ago but not anymore being so alike in hardware, it's just the OS layer and a few features that change..........

How many versions of the Xbox one exist? How many versions of the PS4 or PS5 exist? Now how many computers with completely different hardware configurations and combinations exist compared to those consoles?

It sucks but there is a reason why developers develop games from the ground up for console first then port to PC rather than the reverse and its even more inherently so since console gamers make up the biggest share of the market compared to PC gamers.

Its not as simple as slapping an OS on stuff and saying it should have cross compatibility. Games still need to be optimised for certain hardware configurations and its easier and quicker to do it for console than pc when nobody knows or will know what the hell you are running under the hood.

If this is coming in 2025, why do we need an article about it in 2023?
Because this article corrects expectations, ,, in pc land it's 2026/7 soo yay not.

All those tired of asynchronous releases.

Wtaf 1990 called, said stop bitchin , This has Always been the way.

Yes some games did different, not many though and no I don't like it either.

What a piece of lmao. GTA V looks dated ever since. This game sports the same graphics as the Max Payne 3, a 2012 game. Even Crysis 1 is on par give or take. CP2077 low settings looks better than GTA V max settings (not to mention the Cyberpunk also doubles if not triples the framerate of that piece of old school).

Does anybody care about another GTA release that isn't a 14 year-old boy?
Not much but considering the "quality" of latest releases why not. Perhaps R* are arsestabbers but they at least do show some respect to their QA.

in pc land it's 2026/7
Late 2028 more likely. It takes R* longer and longer to make a PC version gen to gen.

Hope they bring an actual anti-cheat when they do release on PC.
You can only hope. Actual anti-cheats are never to come.

Don't worry, we will get GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox SX with 1080p30 or 720p60 beside a crappy interpolated in between thing, later on a crap PC-Port and then a “next-gen” PS6 and Xbox Y update. Maybe also some DLCs for more playable characters and of course online only benefits.
