Disagree. X3D R9 is a halo product. Not many buy them, and rightly so, but they have a place in the lineup as demonstration of power. R5/R7 are mainstream/enthusiast parts which are actually purchasable by most people.

The problem is it didn't demonstrate all that much power. That setup of a CCD with v-cache, the other with higher frequency and to top it all off having xbox game bar of all things manage the balance of the two has to be one of the greatest tech pranks of all time.

This. Does anyone remember the narrative about X3D on AM4. People were moaning about the 12 and 16 core chips not having Vcache. AMD gives us exactly that and the narrative moans about it. Now the narrative are telling you that your R9 Vcache CPU is not faster than the 7800X3D because it has 1 CCD like this is 2017.

People were moaning expecting both CCDs would have 3d v-cache, not the weird setup AMD came up with. Not that it would make a particular difference or financial sense either, it's the old want moar powahhhh!!! complaining but it would avoid the pitfalls of the current solution.

AMD openly stated that they tried that and having one CCD without Vcache was better as it allowed those cores to clock to 5.7 Ghz which improved performance. You don't have to believe me just read user reviews of the 7900X3D on Amazon or Newegg.

I don't have to believe AMD either, in aplications on average it seems to make no difference other than margin of error and gaming seemingly just wants cache

Well yeah, if you play at 4K, you'll need to upgrade your video card long before your CPU, even if you only had an R5-5600. I upgraded to my R7-5800X3D from an R7-5700X but it was because a coworker was looking for a Zen3 octocore chip for productivity and I sold him my 5700X. All told, the 5800X3D cost me $100CAD and that's a bargain! Otherwise, I'd still be using my 5700X quite happily.

Of course, then Starfield came along and I was damn glad to have the X3D because early on, getting 60FPS at any resolution required at least a 5800X3D. It's not a huge deal as games like that are so rare as to be statistically irrelevant.
