Windows 12 Might be a Windows 11 24H2 Update, Still Carries AI-Centric Features

This is another one reason why W11 is hot garbage. Wanna make things neat, MAKE THEM NEAT. This is the opposite of making clicking "Show more options" an absolute necessity every time you hit RMB on anything because there is zero useful functions on the main screen no matter what you're about to do. Luckily there's a registry workaround so you can revert everything back to sanity but I still despise this decision. It's top 1 prank went too far.
You can also have shift pressed when you right-click so no need to do workarounds.

You gotta admit, its pretty funny that apple, windows, ALL OS's still rely on GUI's that use old outdated folder icons, just because business offices relied on them for storage decades ago. Meanwhile, modern day, barely anyone uses file cabinets anymore. My point, no OS company can think beyond a folder!

How do you explain ~4x latency decrease after W10 rollback on my "DLSS" machine?
I dunno, sounds like a personal issue frankly.

I don't like AI really, but I know enough about it to know it's not an dealbreaker on my OS selection either. I really understand the fascination with it as little as I understand the fear.

Most people need AI to be I(ntelligent) at all. I'm so happy to have a good amount of N(atural)I so AI is pretty useless on my site... ;)

My Excel sheets have also conclusions. Those conclusion sentences aren't AI they are programmed as a Macro in VBA or as Formula. I don't see any use of AI in my work.

Same goes for the SAVE icon in office, its a floppy disk!!! HELLO, 2024

Save icons are standard for nearly all applications out there. Symbols don't become outdated. Their functions may, but saving won't go anywhere.
Even zoomers who have never seen a floppy associate the action with the symbol. This applies to many others; compasses, hourglasses, old analog phone handsets, magnifier glasses, calculators, etc.

The same goes for directory/folder symbols. Although some are trying to kill their functions with this (idiotic) migration from file tree systems.

mostly bullshit, totally idiotic.
And all the tech companies have the train at maximum full speed ahead.

Hopefully W12 has a stripped down LTSC version........................

Will this amazing AI help windows not throw up a hundred irrelevant web search suggestions whenever I try to type the name of a known installed program on the start menu?

There is a simple fix for that: Regedit: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer DisableSearchBoxSuggestions 1
Reboot and it's gone.

While you're at it, go into Taskbar Settings and disable: Search, Copilot, Task view, Widgets.

Now Windows 11 is faster, better looking, and more streamlined than Windows 10 ever was.

New energy saving features but also AI?

I used chat gpt for the first time this week and it significantly poorer quality than I anticipated. I imagine the copilot will be worse quality.

Quick note, M$ has been integrating "machine learning" / "AI" since at least server 2019.

Hi,
I doubt it will be all that difficult to disable a lot of the AI bloat.
Right now I should be cussing at copilot for always pushing my apps over but it isn't because I have blocked it.

Pray tell, what other icon would you use?
Or does your button just say 'SAVE'

Let's do this thought experiment real quick ;) Replace those icons. Go

Microsoft lack the talent and skills to make a totally new version of Windows. Nutella hates Windows too, so that doesn't help the matter.
Why totally new? If I could manually pick the best parts of XP, 7 and 10 user interfaces (in that order), I'd pay 100% more than M$ charges, seriously!

I would pay double the price of W11 for W7 with DirectX 12, support for all the latest hardware and security updates.
but you and I aren't the customer, we are the product.

Which is way a real useful substitute for windows is a necessity and a certainty.

windows has never been this unattractive.
but as long as i can fully remove (not disable) all of this AI crap i'm fine with it.
Since when can you remove the forced M$ bloatware
You cannot even really remove edge or cortana...
And yes, I just want my old Win7 with all the current hardware and drivers ...

cortana can be officially uninstalled in W11 and stuff like edge can be removed without a trace with software like geek uninstaller. (i always remove basically everything after installing, set up over 20 firewall rules and have over 160 registry changes before i can call it "useable".

Well, I use W10, since even W11 is unapealing,
And the fact that you need some "hacks" to remove that unwanted crap from the system is speaks volumes...

Sorry, but SSDs have been the standard as a boot drive since Windows 7 in 2009. If you have a PC that's older than that, you probably shouldn't be installing Windows 10 on it, let alone Windows 11. Or, just shell out the pennies to replace the HDDs with small-capacity SSDs.

We can dream!
SSD have hardly been the standard in OEM computers even in the 2020, most corporate PCs i've seen here still run on HDDs, specially in public/municipalities/banks,.
I'm in the business of buying "old" computers that are retired due to yearly/bi-yearly procurement/leasing and still-in-warrranty Dell high end SFF desktops from essentially the biggest courthouse in our province(we're talking hundred of computers) are still bought with HDDs.

So no, here on companies there's still mostly all HDDs

Our Dell corporate desktop machines from 2019 came with hdd's, not ssd's.
I watched one take more than 10mins to get to desktop this week.
Our corporate refresh has been put off until october at least, and these machines warranty expired in 2022.
I would love to have ssd's on all our machines, but hdd's are still very much around in businesses.
Some dual cpu workstations are still booting off sata hdd's !
Not even sas.

All our corp win images are win10.
exactly THIS, corporate bulk computers were still sold with HDD as the standard lower-price-point until very recently, beancounters will always choose a 500GB HDD over a 120GB SSD at the same price because more is better.
And you can blame Dell for this as they should default to SSD or SSHD at the worst, and put the HDD option as an extra

That's whoever makes purchasing decisions at your company cheaping out because an HDD costs $10 less than an SSD, not Microsoft's fault. Never mind that the time saved by the SSD will make up for that $10 in the first month of use, not to mention the lifetime of the PC. But hey, that's what happens when accountants are allowed to control things they know nothing about.
It doesn't matter how it came to happen or the reasons, but the fact that new modern computers still use HDDs as i've said, and thus unusable in win11.
I've seen the computers here take upwards of 40min+ to boot when a particularly big windows update comes out. Also on patch tuesday they start downloading the update(which for some reason does some kind of preinstall that's super IO heavy pegging the hdd at 100% constantly) making the computer essentially unresponsive for HOURS.
