check with people in any large torrent sites IRC chanil, if you ask about peerguardian most of the ppl will just laugh at you thinking its saving you from being caught.....

you block their KNOWN addys, but those companys know all about pg2, and guess what, they use proxys allover the world, as well as hiring people to run p2p apps and collect data for them from home......

basickly pg2 is like putting a rubber on thats got holes in it, you may think your protected but really its not doing much other then giving you a faulse sence of security.

So would you simply not bother using it, or say that some protection is better than none?

It's obvious that the big anti-p2p agencies will have proxies and unknown addresses etc.. but if you can block *some* of those addresses (including the *main* ones) is that not better than nothing?

Also, do you not think it makes you a slightly more difficult target. Look at the pirate bay.. 9 MILLION people using it.. no way in hell can you identify every one of those people. Let's say that 10% are using PG2 and other forms of "protection." Wouldn't the anti-p2p people rather pick on the "easier" targets.. i.e. those who download lots of popular stuff and leave it seeding for ages?

Also, do you think private trackers are safer? I think there's a bit of a sense of false security unless they are REALLY under the radar.. obviously things like Oink weren't exactly under the radar enough, lol

No, using PG2 does you no good whatsoever. It's false sense of security. By the time it blocks a connection, they already have all the info they need. Namely your IP, and what torrent it's associated with. It's a pure waste of your computer's resources.

But surely your IP and the torrent isn't enough alone? Don't they have to prove that you are sharing that file?

I know that in previous cases, the "evidence" has been files which the anti-p2p people have downloaded from the accused persons computer. They may be able to SEE you in the swarm, but if they can't get files from you, they can't prove that you were sharing.

I also don't understand the "false sense of security" argument... it's only a bad thing if you act differently or recklessly because you think you are protected. If you have PG2 running, *and* you act carefully (i.e. sticking away from brand new movies on public trackers etc) I don't see how that isn't giving you a small amount of extra security.

Also, going back to the numbers thing. If you were silly enough to download Iron Man from the pirate bay, you'd see there have been >10,000 downloads. Obviously, anti-p2p people can't chase everyone so do you not think that making things even 5% more difficult, *still* reduces your odds?

And currently PG2 is using 3.2mb of my 4Gb of RAM.. I don't think it's slowing me down too much.
