But surely your IP and the torrent isn't enough alone? Don't they have to prove that you are sharing that file?

I know that in previous cases, the "evidence" has been files which the anti-p2p people have downloaded from the accused persons computer. They may be able to SEE you in the swarm, but if they can't get files from you, they can't prove that you were sharing.

I also don't understand the "false sense of security" argument... it's only a bad thing if you act differently or recklessly because you think you are protected. If you have PG2 running, *and* you act carefully (i.e. sticking away from brand new movies on public trackers etc) I don't see how that isn't giving you a small amount of extra security.

Also, going back to the numbers thing. If you were silly enough to download Iron Man from the pirate bay, you'd see there have been >10,000 downloads. Obviously, anti-p2p people can't chase everyone so do you not think that making things even 5% more difficult, *still* reduces your odds?

And currently PG2 is using 3.2mb of my 4Gb of RAM.. I don't think it's slowing me down too much.

Any thoughts?

first off, no they dont gotta proove shit to send ur isp a letter(most isp's take 4 or more letters for you to get in any real trouble with them) and 2nd the kinda proof your taking about is easy to create/fake, its like making a fake irc/chat log showing somebody saying something they never said.

and no 5% wont do shit, because if ur in the US or a country the RIAA has any pull/power in, they will send your isp a letter to get you dinged for illegal downloading, they arent gonna sue you unless ur like that dumb little bit.h that was sharing like 50k songs on her family puter using limewire(or something like that)

as to the risk beling lower because the peer counts high, that is true, BUT your at higher risk if your one of the few in that sworm thats in a country where the riaa has the power to harrass your isp, see they can easly tell what country and even what area of what state your in by your IP addy, as such they can send you isp a letter about your sharing/downloading even if they have zero proof other then your ip addy.

its not the getting sued part your in need to worrie about unless ur some kind of pirat kinpin, but then you wouldnt be in the states so u wouldnt be getting sued, its your isp getting letters and cutting you off if they get to many, PG2 has zero effect on them sending said letters.

Fair enough. Thanks for the info. I wasn't trying to start an argument.. just I've heard a lot of people promoting PG2 and never really heard any arguments against it.

I guess a lot of it comes down to how much your ISP values their customer privacy. A good ISP should not hand over your details unless they have a court order or good evidence, but I know it doesn't really work that way.

very true - most ISPs don't really give a damn about their customer base, and the larger they are, the worst. Your region also plays a part in it as well . . .

Here, we only have two high-speed ISPs, and Verizon has been very good to their customers. Cox Communications, on the other hand . . . I've heard of them contacting customers trying to out-smart their bandwidth caps by using proxys, and they also cap their customers connection speeds after 6PM.

With Verizon - they could give a shit less what you're up to, unless they're contacted by another company about piracy, and even then, Verizon tends to demand concrete evidence before they even start pressuring their customer.

But, just to keep in mind though, any time you're up to shady practices on the internet - you're at risk of being busted.

most isp's like comcast couldnt givea shit till you get a letter then, comcast dosnt give out ur info they just send you a copy of the letter with a warning.

as to hearing alot of people promoting it, its the uninformed masses that prmoto such things, look at kazza, it was such a shit newtork, BUT it was extreamly popular because the uninformed masses used it and told everybody they knew about it.

just because alot of people pimp something dosnt mean its not bad or useless, using pg2 is like using a rubber thats got holes in it, nice faulse sence of security nothing more.

Selfish ? Impatient ?
Go F Yourself!
Big balls you got to make such claims on a human race that has better things to do then have our precious time wasted by SPAM!

Lucky im not ruling this world, because one of my first laws would be execution of all spammers, decided by the jury of 1, me.

I dont know about where you people come from, but here in Australia, our ISP's dont give a shit. They tend to promote spamming and hacking and not follow up on offenders. Sure they bust someone once in a blue moon, but the person they bust should have been executed years ago or they bust the most innocent of us all ( caught for having a minor mp3 collection ).

Security on the internet is non existant, thats why the concept was released to the public. Our ISP's dont care about hardcore evidence, they want it, and dont follow up. Thte only way to get shit done here in Australia is to persue the matter via the Ombudsmon which highlights how shitty things are.
