Although it doesn't look the part, the Sennheiser Game One is a serious gaming headset with great sound quality and a class-leading microphone. Its price is hefty, but you do get excellent performance in return.

I've had these since release and amazingly they aren't broken and still work. I'm pretty rough on headphones. If these died I would most likely buy them again.

Quite possibly my next headset. Every Sennheiser I've owned was great - until I tripped over the cord and.. the rest is history :p

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how good the quality is. Gaming in stereo is a joke and you'll get waxed in almost any FPS. When can stereo die?

The only FPS where it might matter (but really doesn't) is CSGO. And that's only on a high professional level. Not to mention, that game has a pretty solid 3D sound emulation for stereo speakers. Haven't had a problem pinpointing enemies on a stereo headset for years now.

You do not need a surround sound system for surround sound, you have two ears. Binaural/ambisonic mixing is not the standard yet, but it is coming and the spatializers in modern game engines are already pretty good . Only major persistent problem is correct near field representation. CSGO has an older but well functioning sound engine where sources are well rendered in headphones, if you use headphones that have a close to flat frequency response.

Don't mistake the overestimated demands of a few hardcore FPS gamers for the norm for 'gaming' or 'sound' or whatever else that is far more important.

The vast majority, as in 97% of all people, doesn't give a rat's behind about CSGO or competitive shooters in the first place. And for that majority, 'virtual surround' really just means 'fake'. Let me tell you this: for anything other than gaming I force my 5.1 system to stereo and even most gaming I just stick to that setting, it sounds a lot better, it still has positional sound that is 'good enough' while not distorting all the rest.

You should try Philips SHP-9500, only $55 and sound much better than these imo.

Aren't the Game One pretty old though? I've had their precursor (essentially the same set but with different colours), the PC360, for what seems like eons now and they are still rock solid.

Can we get a review of the Senn GSP 600 next? That would be awesome.

The Philips SHP-9500 are good but saying they are superior is a bit of a stretch, and don't come with a mike.

Yes sir you can! The GSP 600 is on its way to me, looking forward to taking it for a spin :)

Nice review. I also have a Game One headset. I replaced my broken Audio-Technica ADG1 with them.

I don't think they are quite as weightless as the ADG1s but they stay on the head much better. Although the ADG1's audio quality certainly wasn't bad, I find that the Game Ones are slightly better and can handle a bit more bass when using an EQ. I wish mine were white though!

Also own this set and they are very good! Best build quality on a headset. You are definitely paying for superior sound quality and build quality.

I really wish I could convince some of you guys to attend a local headphone convention near you. You would be blown away how bad these game one headphones are, lol. Look head-fi website local meets section, you might get lucky. My go to gaming headphones are the Monolith M560 with XBR 500 earpads. You want a mic, add the $30 magnetic boom mic, ez pz.

Same. I love mine. They don't show any major signs of wear going on 2 years now.

I have listened to 10 different pairs of gaming headphones and none of them come close to the Game One. I have also listened to the monolith and not bad for $150 but not even close to the Game One.

I'll also add that I have a pretty big head and I don't find them uncomfortable at all. Not even if I wear them for a 12+ hour gaming session. The caveat to that is that I also always wear beanies so I am sure that softens any pinch.

Erocker, I just noticed that you said if you broke them you would buy again. I agree with that. If I broke mine, I would also buy again without hesitation.

Ms son had a $355 Sennheiser headset forget the model... he's 6'-4" and since ya can forget they are on, he would oft trear them off his head while standing. Enentually th cable half pulled out of the thing and he sent them out for repair. He borrowed a G30 wireless set from me that I had in the office ... and well... I never got it back :) . I asked why he doesn't use the Sewnn's anymore when playing (thinking it was the wireless) and he said that he liked the fit and sound better for gaming. He still has the Senns and the 930s ... but he use the 930 for gaming and the Senns for laying in bed listening to music. I wound up witha replacement G933 next B'day.

Logitech's G930 were the first wireless headset I ever owned and last. I liked them very much at the time. They were very portable, had decent battery life and enabled me to still use them while charging via wire. Then one day in a gaming session I asked a friend of mine (who was constantly accused of hacking in Black Ops 2) how he was so good. He said he listened to sound a lot and referenced a UAV that was currently flying in the air. I couldn't hear it, but looked up and sure enough there was.

So I researched and ended up buying the SteelSeries Siberia V2. I loaded up Black Ops and sure enough I could hear that damn UV that had been enabling my enemies to kill me.

The Sennheiser Game One allows me to sound-whore in games, has an awesome mic, and is very comfortable. I'm not very rough on my headsets, but it hardly shows any signs of wear.

It certainly shares many of the same attributes.

The PC360 was certainly well-received. Perhaps they took that and just made it even better and of course asked for more money.

You have listened to the monolith with stock earpads, not XBR 500 earpads* get your facts straight.

XBR 500 earpads turn my monolith m560 into a $500 slayer of a headphone, it is the best headphone with the earpad change I have ever heard and I have heard over 200 headphones from headphone conventions in Chicago and London. also you may not have had a good amp/dac when comparing, which also changes everything.

From what I can gather, the game one is just a pc360 more or less.
Game one has a better cable and other colors on the headset itself, and a little bit better bass. And thats about it, as far I could find.

IMO not worth it, to justify the higher price, tho I do know pc360 is getting hard to find. I wonder why.
