"AI defect detection" gimmicks are useless.
Yeah, not really a feature I would likely use. BTW, I came across a post in Reddit today or yesterday saying they actually have "AI Defect Detection" working on the Elegoo Centauri Carbon

That's via the 3rd party "OctoEverywhere" software that runs via Docker or on a Raspberry Pi attached to the same network as the printer.

Knob on my swamp cooler broke. So i replicated it with a few measurements and printed one already. Printing another with fuzzy skin.

I am looking at getting a 3d printer and am looking at the Bambu A1 Mini and the Elegoo Centauri Carbon. Wha are their Slicer software like for each printer and how reliable are they? I want to keep the cost down to 300$ and below if I can.

Just got my Centauri Carbon on Friday. The quality of prints at default settings is outstanding.

As to the slicer software, Elegoo do their own (SatelLite - Windows only for now) but also contributed the printer profiles to the open-source Orca Slicer software.
As to reliability, only time will tell.

A printer for ants? :D

Can I say that most slicer software will work with most printers? I used Orca, Cura, and now I use Creality with my Creality K1C but not the latest version, lol.

....Elegoo Centauri Carbon. Wha are their Slicer software like for each printer and how reliable are they? I want to keep the cost down to 300$ and below if I can.
The Elegoo's price is a pre-order price. Final price will probably be higher.
The Bambu A1 Mini is only below 300 if you are getting it without the AMS unit. So the difference is quite significant between the two printers.
If your budget can stretch....and the choice is only between these two, the Elegoo hands down IMO.
Slicer is a preference, you will know what works for you the moment you start using it.
Bambu slicer is based off Orca slicer, which is hailed as the best at the moment. I personally use Cura as I enjoy the interface, the data base...etc...etc. I've tried others, but I always come back to Cura at this stage of my journey with hobby 3D printing.

Incorrect.
Elegoo call it "pre-order" when they mean back-order, as they're shipping in batches. The price is the price.

The A1 Mini is 239$ and the Carbon is 299$, while the Centauri is 199$. The Centauri is the Carbon without the cover panels by the description of it, but it is sold out for now. The Slicer software that Bambu and Elegoo both use for their FDM printers is based off of Orca, which is a plus to me. I also like the fact that both of Elegoo printers come with harden nozzles that can be used with carbon or glass fiber filament, unlike the Bambu A1 which you have to buy.

All in all, I think the Carbon Centauri is the one I am interested in unless I can find the Centauri in stock some ware to buy.

The Centauri "not-Carbon" hasn't launched yet. That's why it shows as sold out.
That one really is a "pre-order" as the printer isn't out until July.

I preordered the Elegoo Centauri Carbon and can hardly wait to get it. I don't expect it until late Jun or early July but there are reports of fulfillment exceeding expectations.

Well, I am with in the waiting now and hope they ship them sooner, though it does give me some time to put another butcher block bench together.

On a side note, a guy at work, just received his Bambu A1 that he ordered in December.

Does the Centauri Carbon have any open-source firmware available? It's really the only thing keeping me from getting one. I've heard that there's people working on it, but I really don't want to buy unless I know it exists.

There are apparently basically two options for 3D printing: Tinkercad, which is way too restrictive, or FreeCAD. I've given up hope and happiness and I am now learning FreeCAD and I hate it so much.

The Elegoo firmware is locked as far as I know. But you can use Orca Slicer instead of the reskinned Elegoo version.

Take a look at Sold Edge Free Creators version cad software, it is not feature gimped or limited.

Use the OpenTheme addon. FreeCAD isn't that much different from other parametric programs in terms of designing things, it's when you want to go back and edit shit that things become a massive headache. Aside from the things it absolutely sucks at of course.

Can always look at Fusion 360 or something...

OrcaSlicer isn't a firmware. Solid Edge looks cool, if it can export stepfiles it's probably a good choice.

Tinkercad is both easy and difficult but nothing compared to blender. So, is FreeCAD as easy as blender? ;)

That sounds like a project bigclive would design.
i wont deny, all the videos of him salvaging disposable vape batteries gave me this idea haha.

i have been following him since ages. long enough to know where each burn mark on his desk came from lol.

EDIT the battery life is amazing, its got 2x 900mAh batteries. i balanced the cells ofcourse. using a TP4056 module for the battery management and a simple buck regulator to bring the voltage down to a stable 3.3v before using resistors to control current.
