Earlier today, AMD announced the release of its much anticipated enterprise quad-core processor, the new Quad-Core AMD Opteron, codenamed "Shanghai". A regular feature with AMD press releases, is that the PR team details about the products' availability. In this particular release, AMD went a step further and revealed the brand name the company's desktop 45nm processors would carry: Phenom II, when getting into details about the AMD Dragon enthusiast platform. Dragon succeeds Spider, and consists of a Phenom II processor, running on AMD 7-series core logic, along with ATI Radeon HD 4000 series graphics accelerators.

The Phenom II processors will consist of a whole range of quad-core, triple-core and dual-core processors, with the products segregated on the basis of their core count, clock-speed and cache arrangement. Several models are lined-up for launch. The platform itself, as AMD asserts, would release in Q1, 2009. There are signs of the company launching some models of the Phenom II X4 sooner, for which motherboard vendors have already started releasing lists of their existing motherboards that are ready for the processors.

Dragons are fun....So if your I have a 4800 card 7seriers chipset then all i need for dragon is the new Phenom II. I plan on picking up Deneb very soon! :)
 
Well I have a 4800 I just need a 790FX and a Phenom II. I wonder what the pricing is gonna be.. I hope they have one that does 3ghz for under 200$. I will go X3 if I have to!

well looking at the chart from above here
The 3ghz Deneb should be out by the end of this year...my guess would be Just in time for Christmas or maybe right after Christmas....I just hope my board is 45nm compatible....it will prob need a bios update but we shall see.
 
Hopefully now they can do away with that silly 5-digit numbering scheme they were going to go with, and just start over at something like a "Phenom II 140" or something, like Intel is doing with the i7 series. :D
 
Phenom II X3 140 does sound pretty nice.. I don't really like 14000 :ohwell: But I guess you can say your cpu is over 9000 tho :p
 
Agreed, new naming scheme would benice!

Still pissed about the mobo support.
 
Lack of current or planned support for AM2+ boards by mfg's like Asus. I just got mine, and it is just mature, and now it is being dumped on and trashed, no support for the new Phenom, even though they clearly have ran them on this hardware.




A plan to fail if you ask me.

The list below shows the ASUS motherboards that are currently AM3 CPU-ready. For users who have already purchased the M3 or M2 Series motherboards, a simple BIOS update is all that is needed to support future AM3 CPUs. The following list will be continuously updated and more AM3 CPU-ready ASUS motherboards are expected to be announced soon.

...don't we wish. They're not bad, though, from everything that I've heard on the net.
 
Hopefully my new Biostar Supports the new Deneb AM2+ CPUs, does anyone know if it supports or will be?
 
Why dont they call the dragon platform with either a 7 series or 8 series chipset? And Im with you Steevo, when I switch to my Asus M3A32 MVP Deluxe Wi Fi AP (sans module ::moos at Erocker) I would want it to support the Phenom 2s.
