Yeah I don't get why the red says $20 off and the green doesn't. They're the same ram, same price, just the green has free shipping.

Get CPU unlocked and you get $30 more value, several bits can be downgraded to save ~$5.

PS: This should be under system builders section.

That case seems like a waste, and that PSU is unnecessarily expensive. I'm also pretty sure that is the lower end version of the GTX460 that runs significantly worse. I also doubt it's worth $8 to maybe get the same thing at best, but at worst get a crippled system.

He can save money and get like a Rosewill Destroyer or a NZXT Gamma or beta case and then get a quad AMD cpu.
And the GTX460 768mb compared to the 1GB isn't that much huge gain you only notice the difference from like 1-5fps gains when you hit the higher resolution. If he is going to game on say 1920x1080 i'm sure the 768mb can handle it pretty easily with a few in-game settings tweaks. But if the difference from spending additional $8 for a 1GB version that isn't an SE then i would say go for it but if he can't go over his budget the 768mb is more than efficient.

Thats looking really good. But the only thing is what is this "green ram" that is supposedly cheaper?

The promo for the Crucial Tracer memory was one day only it seems.

Here's another option for better future expandability. Get the Asrock board that has an AM3+ socket, use the integrated graphics for awhile until you can afford a video card. One cheap option for that is a secondhand 5770 from this forum (should be like $70-80). Or even cheaper, a 4770, GTS 250 or 9800 GTX for under $40. All would be more than capable of high quality WoW; you could even play BC2 pretty good with some cores unlocked on the CPU. Looking at new low end cards, I think the 6750 / 6770 / 6790 / GTX 460 768MB are a little overpriced. If there was a 5770 still available on newegg for $100 that would be good but they are all sold out.

He said he already had a copy of windows, even a $90 GPU instead of integrated I guess would be worth it. I still stand by my belief that going for the X2 and trying to unlock is a poor choice...

wasting to much money on the case

get a Xigmatek Asgard II for $29 it has enough room to fit most mid range gpus without issue its no special awesome case but for $29 theres NO case that beats it, that gives $15 more room to work compared to every other build on there

ask someone on TPU to send you a IDE dvd drive i mean for christs sake i just junked about 10 of them for the PCB inside to melt it down for precious metals. that saves $15-20 there thats $35-40 to spend on better parts, hell if i get bored ill do a build

well i got bored here ya go
Everything you need nothing you dont and its $498 TOTAL SHIPPED $483 shipped after Mail In Rebate.

That would be great if you did a build, the more options the better.

I'll second that psu, but not enthusiastic on that processor. For WOW a 5770/6770 would be overkill g-card. I am using it on better games. It does great at the resolution my monitor can handle. If possible step up for a better hd:
HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C 0F10383 1TB 7200 RPM 32M...
ASUS CuCore Series EAH5770 CuCore/2DI/1GD5 Radeon ...
I would do the 5770 and this processor for the same price after rebate:
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 ...

and don't be afraid to wait a week or 2 for sales if possible, or even open box items. I have purchased a couple of Newegg open box items before with no problems. You can get some good mobo deals that way.

PS Avoid the opti-arc. I bought one for somebody at Christmas and discovered they have a high return rate :(.

My rationale?

The case is one I have had, cheap but decent. If you take the time you can work wonders with cable management and it has ample room for fans.

I've used Western Digital drives almost exclusively and have had no problems but for one I damaged myself. This one has the new 6 GBps interface.

The motherboard is a bit future proof and will function with upcoming AMD cpus. I'll mention the CPU here as well. Now it is not a quad core but this should more than suffice for the needs you mentioned and if you are going to upgrade in (near) future to the new AMD chips you may as well not go for the most expensive CPU now.

Graphics card is from what I gather about as powerful as the HD 5850 which I use presently. I am yet to find need for a more powerful card. I game at 1980x1080.

The power supply. I would go for this simply because it had 675+ ratings on newegg with an average of 4 eggs. It is modular for better cable management.

Four gigs of ram and Windows 7 64 work nicely.

That's about it but I will tell you there is a lot more choice out there even if you have a small budget.:pimp:

Mmm i was thinking you could probably use this pieces and i can tell you is more than enough to play wow, (my PC is about the same).

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHz $100
Motherboard: MSi 870-G45 (AM3) $78
Graphics Card: Asus EAH5770 CuCore/2DI/1GD5 $125
RAM: G.Skill 4GB (2*2GB) PC 1300 $35
Power Supply: Rosewill 450W ATX $40
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB, 7200rpm, SATA 6Gb/s $44
DVD Burner: Asus 24X DVD Burner $20
Case: Raidmax Tornado Mid ATX Tower $47

Total: $489:D

I changed the Phenom II X2 555 BE because it's a lucky shot you can unlock one, and in fact this CPU performs very well and still have potential for overclocking (you can buy for example a Cooler Master 212 Plus later and put this baby at ~ 3.5Ghz:rockout:), and counting that games take advantage of 4 cores, i found it a good deal.;)

already done and already from a price performance standpoint beat out every other build listed so far

6850 is slightly better then a stock GTX 460 1gb,

if the ram deal for the Crucial stick was still good that drops the price another $10 putting total cost down to $470

ok, so let's see, in conclusion, the best you could find over there with a airflow case, graphics card, modular power supply for cable management and processor is this:

Damn now i want to upgrade my PC :ohwell:

So this is going to be the best I can get? This is the one I should purchase?

Yep mate:), this is the best deal you could get under 500 dollars and having the posibility to upgrade to Phenom II X6 and after some time crossfire the graphics card.

If you get this, you can't go wrong to play wow at ultra settings on 1680*1050 or 1920*1080:rockout:

I still would recommend you go for a motherboard that supports the upcoming processors. Having a board that supports the newer processors now would save money on having to buy both a motherboard and a CPU if you are gonna upgrade in the future.

You're right, if you take the rebate of the case, and add just 2 bucks to RAM and change the power supply, this should be enough upgrade for a while and beeing even best deal than before.

The chipset of the motherboard is 870, wich is the entry-level to Phenom II X6 family series, he would just need a BIOS upgrade instead of buying a new one :)

meh id still take my build cheaper same performance

gives a triple core which has a chance to unlock to a quad, better powersupply then anyone else so far, same gpu motherboard is 125w capable and can take a Phenom II x6 if needed, also managed to fit in a 1terabyte F3 samsung which are still one of the fastest drives on the market

seems to me ppl still are only equally what i put out but need to do so with lower and slower hardrives and crappy psus lol

also almost every build so far is at the limit before shipping im under it with shipping included

ill qoute myself

well i got bored here ya go

I'm thinking Bulldozer here. Aim for the stars. Hopefully Bulldozer is the stars:D
