This situation reminds my of my Vega64 Red Devil. Failed due to a power supply. Even after I've acquired 5600XT it the card was unstable. Though the PSU was working fine with a 1050TI so go figure. Swapped it with a SeaSonic and all problems went away but I got my Vega64 damaged anyway. Even swapped cables but it was gone already (Worked for some time with my 5600XT though)
My 6900XT Red Devil works flawlessly with the SeaSonic 750W PSU. No problems whatsoever. I'd really take a closer look to PSU's you have been using with the card cause I know, sometimes it does get in the way of stability no matter the OC.

i can run my 450W 3080 FTW3 Extreme with no issues and it's my PSUs fault that the card pulls around 100W in CS:GO and crashes within seconds.

This is what happens when the memory on your card is cooked harder then left over turkey at a thanksgiving party.

Even if it's not applicable to this particular thread, this is still true.

Power supply quality is so much more important than people realise....

Even if it doesn't apply to this it does remind me of the issues I had. Maybe it's worth giving this a try. Not sure what the OP has tried so far.
Oh yeah. PSU is very important. I do know that, especially if you have a GPU that gobbles up a bit of power though.

Are you sure that the Vega64 didn't damage your PSU first :D, like how the RX480 killing motherboard PCIe slot because the RX480 draw too much power from the PCIe slot?
From TPU reviews, 6900XT also exhibit poor power regulation behavior, with spike up to 600W by itself.
So yeah, shifting the blame onto other components when the GPU itself was the root cause is not being entirely fair.
Also that take away AMD GPU value proposition since you have to buy better PSU, motherboard and even cable to have them run as intended.

Yes I'm sure the V64 card didn't damage the PSU but instead the PSU damaged the card.
Never seen a spike to 600W with my 6900xt. Besides, the spikes you are referring to are during the FurMark benchmark only scenario.
I don't have to buy a better PSU because the one I currently have works fine with the card but if I wanted to get MAX/Extreme OC, it would have been better to get a stronger PSU than a 750W I've got just in case.

You can't see a 20ms long spike without professional equipment anyways.
I'm running an 9900K and 3090 both OCed just fine on a 750W PSU, so you are saying a 6900XT need better PSU than a 3090 does just to be able to overclock?
Heck I having been running all my Nvidia GPUs off a single PCIe power cable (Titan X Maxwell, 1080Ti, 2080 Ti and 3090) because of aesthetic and they all perform just fine.

I said, I would go with a higher Watt PSU than a 750W just in case. I don't care about your system to be honest.

It's not about how big or what interval the spikes happen but during what circumstance. It has been said ONLY during FURMARK scenario. So I'm not worried. Never had a sudden PC shutdown so I know I don't have these.

My 6900XT performs flawlessly. No problems with it.
Heck , this is Radeon thread and you havent shared anything useful so far but instead you keep picking on other people's words just to throw some NV crap. Maybe start your own thread and praise NV there?

Oh so you are attacking OP because you assume he's running crappy PSU is contributing to the thread, my bad then? I guess I don't have red tinted glasses to see your logic .
IMO AMD should have stick a label on all their GPU: "1KW PSU required" then.

Edit just found out that Vega64 has some crazy spike too LOL

Are you entirely sure your Vega64 wasn't the culprit :D

I'm not attacking anybody especially not the OP. maybe you should roll back to the top of the thread and start reading over.
The 1KW PSU. I think AMD shouldn't label 1KW as a requirement because 750W works fine with my card. Besides it has already been mentioned here several times, it's not just the PSU power but also the cabling and quality. You must have missed that.

Ok from that list it looks like all AMD GPUs have sky high power spike that may contribute to the early death of low quality PSU, or potential instability of the entire system.
Oh well just blame the PSU, power cable, display cable, RAM for all the instability which may have caused by the GPU in the first place i guess . Who knows this might be what cause the 5700XT blackscreening fiasco that people were gladly putting the blame on everything else but the GPU itself.

Bad AMD gpus. I'm sure there's a story there. Good luck.

You gotta hand it to AMD though - they know how to stay on top of at least one type of charts - the power consumption ones (if not the average, than at least the spikes), despite being on a superior process and (as always) lagging behind in performance. :roll:And you are correct that the red teamsters are the first to blame everything else apart from the products of their beloved company that can (according to them) do no wrong!
