I'd probably go with whatever is cheapest. In my area at least look likes the 7800 xt is $100 cheaper, so that'd be my pic. Plus you get longer driver support and less power consumption. But it is going to be a little slower than 6950xt.

Benchmark Scores A few points.
7800 XT, better card in every way except pure raster where it's not much slower.
7800 will also OC better, my 7900 easily does 3.1ghz.
