Honestly I am pretty content with my ancient 5900X still. I only game at 60fps
Nothing to complain with my 5800X and I have a 4K120 monitor, it's the 6700 XT which holds me back. :D

yeah at 4k I don't think you need to upgrade. I still do a mix of 1440p and 1080p. Also, I am not sure how to measure these things, but let's say rivatuner says 99% GPU usage in-game, but it's a game that benefits from x3d cache, wouldn't you still get more fps with a 5800x3d or 7800x3d even though everyone always just says GPU usage at 99% means CPU doesn't matter?

I find this confusing.

Yeah, X3D would still be faster, but not that much as with lower resolutions. And there was a 100EUR price difference so I went with the non-3D version.

People can say what they want about me, I don't give a damn. I couldn't resist it for $216. Not to mention I got a really good Mobo for only $95 and top tier ram for $98

this mobo is faster in boot times and in gaming than even expensive x670 boards.

and the ram is nothing to laugh at. super fancy M-Die, 6000 30-36-36-76

total price after tax was $440 as I said in a previous post. I mean, can you blame me?

In 99% of the games that I play, I play 4K60 max settings. CP77 and MFS I have to cheat a little.. teehee.. :)

But it is totally worth it :)

Edit:

What I like about my 58X3D is it is so easy to cool, it hardly spools my fans. The old man in me loves it :D

No reason to 2nd guess yourself or listen to the but Zen5 is out soon the 9900X3D is likely to cost more by itself than what you paid for everything. Great deal and plenty fast in almost every scenario with your 7900XT.

Also at computex next month we are likely at best only getting an announcement with availability in August/September at the soonest.

People fixate too much over 10-15% even if it cost 80-100% more money.

I guess everyone games at medium settings these days.

At a min I much rather have a 7800X3D with AM5s upgrade path vs the 12600k you had with a 14th gen cpu as your only path up. Especially for what you paid.

It's for the best I'm nowhere near a Microcenter.
I'd be all over this, and I have 2 high-tier AM4 setups, already.

I feel the same with my 5950x w/ 4060 (low profile) and previously with RX 6700XT.
X3D is all the rage but 5800X with RX 6700XT does a fine job as well for some cost savings at 60fps gaming.

An HDV with a heatsink! I can't complain about that. Based on the review it looks like a cost effective hidden gem for gamers.

I find this confusing.
There is a lot more to this than looking at a %. It gets even better, did you know utilization is also based on clockspeed of the GPU? If the GPU can boost higher than your current clock the usage is actually always incorrect. Only if you are clockspeed limited and get 99% you have full utilization. But wait there is more. Even then at 100% utilization, you might still be running a game that isnt using half the GPUs capabilities or engines. Thats why game A will push 100% but you have 70C on the core while another does the same but clocks lower and gives you 80C.

On the CPU side, utilization numbers are even less informative because now there is a scheduler in there too and even per core utilization numbers wont show you where the bottleneck might be, for example, the CPU might just be waiting on data so it shows low utilization, or it can show high utilization but that's all phsyics while the game runs like shit. What X3Ds fix is simply the part of feeding data to the CPU at a very low latency. So you can theorize what games benefit most, and in practice they often do; games that push a lot of game logic over X time, more so than graphical output, as a basis for their framerate. And this logic is generally sequential of nature, if it can be run parallel, you're probably getting equal or better results on a higher core count CPU even non X3D.

Nothing will ever be powerful enough for some people. When 5 series comes out. There will be people saying I want 4k at 300 fps. When that comes out, people will say I want 300 fps at 16k. Nothing will ever be good enough for some people. Take a trip through poverty having truly nothing but illness. You will start seeing the light.

I have heard and seen it all in my 49 years. Just be thankful for what you have. Unless you have been through literal hell in life (some of us have), you are fine.

My eyes see absolutely 0 difference between 240fps and 120fps. My eyes. Thankfully.

Read this, you are just unlucky, and so am I, as I cap out at around 180hz.
