hi

i think i have a problem with my new 9800 x3d,

the cpu is overheating like crazy and is throttling

when i run programm like prime95 and cinebench my cpu go over 90C and throttle to 5100 mhz instead of 5.2 ghz. the cpu was 1.2V in cpu-z

i tried undervolting and my cpu is now at 1.120V and can run cinebench properly at 76-78C but prime95 is still a problem, and the cpu only go to 4.7 ghz.

my motherboard is probably giving to much voltage to the cpu, what is the stock voltage for an 9800x3d at 5.2 ghz

my cooling is an 420 AIO
Working a intended. Ryzen cpu's run hot as hell.

LOL NO. On an 8core chip like the x3d 200w is not coolable man. My u12a can push 320 watts on a big die like the 14900k, but the moment I used a 9800x 3d with it it went to 96c and thermal throttling at 140 watts.

Valid point for the X3Ds because of the “thermal density” but I’ve seen reviews with 360mm LF-II with better temperatures for 9800X3D.
Maybe a couple of degrees difference in room and a couple more for the case can make a real difference.

The same applies to non x3d. There is no way you can cool 200w on an 8core chip the size of ryzen unless you do some custom loop chillers etc. Thermal density is huge

I'd de-lid it and run custom myself. She'll sing a little better that way.

People should expect any Flagship processor to max most conventional off the shelf coolers by now.

You can say your 420 AIO is as good as my heavy all copper water blocks, I'll prove that wrong once we get that stupid IHS plate out of the way. :)

i never said an 420 AIO is a good as as custom water block.

i cannot afford to go custom , and don't want to delid,
(don't have the tool)

14700k is way better than 9800 x3d and need a better cooler.

Something is wrong mate. Cinebench R23 all core load sits around 77°C on my 9800x3d with an Artic freezer 3 360. And in gaming it hovers around 50°C. And I'm running it with PBO +200 / CO -30 /Scalar 10x. This gives about 5.4ghz in Cinebench allcore.
This chip is easy to keep cool.
