A Christmas Miracle: 500,000 NVIDIA RTX 3080 Cards Found in Lost Shipping Container

Really? Ryzen 5000 is WIDELY available in SA. I can get 100+ of any of the four SKUs. My sales have slowed down to almost nothing as this is excess AFTER the market has already been saturated with them
Really. SA is not an accurate depiction of availability in the global market. In more places than not, AMD CPUs are also hard to come by.

ONE model is available at newegg, for example.

Looking around, down here all the 5000 series SKUs seem to be in enough available stock, but the low average purchasing power plus the uncertainties surrounding the economy here are probably playing a hand in keeping those CPUs in stock, too. Simply put, not many can afford them, specially with the still very much satisfactory 3000 series easily available at much lower prices.

Its 50.000 ... not 500.000 .

Its impossible to fit 500.000 cards in the space of a shipping container mathematics.

And samsung hasnt even made half million 3080 chips yet...

Cya

Does that mean there might be stock for a few minutes before everyone else buys them!? :D

Clearly folks have already outed the story as fictional, but one could have at least made it more believable with better photo shopping and a more realistic number. It's impossible to fit 50,000 cards in a container, let alone 500,000. About 10 minutes of research and some basic math will show a more realistic number to have used would have been 5,000.

Using my Zotac 980Ti AMP Omega box, dimensions are 17" x 11.5" x 4" = 782 inÂł
cubic inches = 1728 inÂł
cubic foot roughly = .4525ftÂł

A 40ft ship container has 2,387ftÂł

If this was a 40ft long ship container and it held my 980Ti that was fully boxed and ready to sell, it would only hold about 5,275 cards; just cards themselves and not including boxes to pack the cards into. A much closer amount would be around 5,000 980Ti cards.
I doubt many more 3080s would fit inside the container.....but we'll make an educated guess on how many just might.

Not having a RTX card to measure the box; going off the RTX 3080 FE size and how the box appears to be in photos....I'd venture to guess a FE box is approximately: 14" wide x 6.5" tall x 6.5" wide = 591.5inÂł
Each box would be around .3423ftÂł
Roughly 6973 RTX 3080 FE GPUs would fit in one 40ft container; just the GPU boxes themselves and not packing boxes they'd be put in. Ideally a more realistic number would 6,500 RTX 3080 FE.

Too big to be true, you don't lose 400M$ like unnoticed, I didn't even bother reading the article.
So I'm born on Spanish Fool's day ... Interesting.

Moooooommmm ! We have to talk.
Happy a day after birthsday.

Samsung has no AIB business. The only thing they ship with a NVIDIA logo are chips (such as GA104 etc.), not cards. So I say they somehow came up with a really realistic number for a fictional story.

I don't want them from that container.. probably they got mold and rats living there already.. lol

December fools I guess ?
its so dumb this even got posted here joke or not its lame

Nice one

Metric please. ;)
It's a 12M shipping container.

I doubt ill see one of those cards...

This fools' joke is just capitalising on the fact that 3080 are highly desirable and unobtainable.

Realistically though, what is it that mandates a new GPU? CP2077 may be the hottest shit to slide off a shovel this year but it will run on an old RX480, GTX1060, entry-level 1650, and plenty of other common GPUs from the last five years.

The 3000-series is fast but if y'all stop getting sucked up in the hype for one hot damn minute you'll realise that there's no killer app. I'm lucky enough to have decent GPUs at home but a game is only as good as its level design, story, and mechanics. Whether you play it at 720p low or 4K ultra is of little consequence; The bugs are still bugs, the story is still the story, and the graphics are still going to get the art style across as long as there are enough pixels to see what you're doing.

If an ancient RX480 can manage 1080p60 low/medium and 1080p30 ultra even during action scenes, it's not exactly a disaster. 4K120 with raytracing is nice if you can dump $3000 on GPUs but those extra pixels really don't make the game itself any better.

Someone say it's not real photo. I ask myself: how many video card can they put in a box ? 10 ? So, haw many box are in this image ? Surely not 50.000

Pretty sure 50,000 could easily fit in one of those containers filled to the brim.

500 000 cards will not fit in one container, so i guess it just GPU chips (maybe with RAM) or even uncut wafers.

Oof, 500,000? Oops, yeah, either more containers or something missing.

Put your math hat on, 40ft long 8ft high, 8ft wide. 16x9x3.5 seems to be common 3080 box dimensions. Start mathing.

Please put "it's a joke" or "Happy Spanish December Fools" in the headline brackets, because it isn't funny and 100% clickbait. I thought I could trust TPU, but they're are becoming the next Wccftech and Tom's Hardware in terms of posts quality...

Another fake doctored picture RIP. I also heard that the container below this had bitcoins and the one above had 50million vaccines.

This whole post: -_-

What's with the new members flying out of nowhere to question our credibility over this? lol

Come on people it should be obvious the container is bigger on the inside ;) .
The T.A.R.D.I.S. has a monopoly on that, so no it isnt.

It makes you wonder how many shipping containers have been lost by Samsung over the years.

"AMD? Nvidia? GPU's in short supply? Call that lady at Samsung!"

Trolls and Frogsharks have a common thing going, they both have weird looking skin. :p

Nah Santa Claus has that tech too (ok it was a dream... but maybe).
I've seen estimates of 10k containers lost overboard every year though the shipping industry seems to thing that's too high. Does make one wonder indeed.

Dude, RTX 30xx cards are exponentially easier to find than AMD 6x00 cards AND 5x00 CPUs. This dig at Nvidia is getting old and irrelevant, and only shows the bias of some news editors in this website...

How this made it to the front page is beyond me, fail at humor and fail at journalism...

You must be great at parties.
