Yeah enjoyed the first game, this looks great too, good to see my 3080 with only 10GB doing okay as well.

Wait, how is the vram usage in this benchmark only using 6 GB max at 4k? Mine uses 11 GB all the time using 4090. Is it because dlss and frame generation?

I just watched (part of) a youtube walkthough. I have to say the graphics are incredible. And I don't just mean the the in-game-characters, but the detailing of the masonry and timber buildings is the best I've seen on any game/simulation. Very knowledgeable detailing of stone-dressing, and half-timber joinery. It must have taken an enormous amount of resource to put that virtual world together. Top marks. If that was in a free-to-walk-anywhere immersive game I'd be even more impressed. I understand the nature of this adventure being different - go from A to B to C to D along fixed corridors rather than free world; but I'd love to have that level of graphics detailing in a free roam FP action.

So, straight to benchmarks:

  • Oh, I'm going to have to upgrade my GPU that's clear, if I want to pay for this
  • Perhaps it will help me heat my home this winter
  • Oh, but the electricity costs, with the new crazy european EUR/kWh, I'll have to also buy a photovoltaic panel and only play on sunny days!

No question it's a pretty game. I'm running it at 3440x1440 ultra with a 5800x3d and 3080, and this game more than any other cooks my cpu. I'm seeing usage as high as 90 degrees! Hot damn

Still sporting a Ryzen 1700 and MSI 1070ti so this was a good test. I’ve pushed my overclock to 1080 speeds and getting 60fps at 1080p with a mix of settings mostly medium. A few mentioned the drops in the village which I really noticed, didn’t think it about the CPU but there you go. Now if MSI would release a stable 5000 series bios for their b350 Tomahawk boards I will be upgrading my CPU.

What I am annoyed about is that there doesn’t seem to be any Hz display settings in game. I usually drop my display to 50hz, save 10 fps and have a smoother overall experience with free sync enabled with a solid fps lock (very helpful with Horizon Zero Dawn). If you have a 3060 or lower I think you’ll be disappointed with this title’s performance.

The craziest part is that I recall seeing an article in which someone from Nvidia said that there was room for a 4090 Ti.
For sure they have more room, Ada GPU has 18k CUDA cores and 4090 is using only 16k, that's +12.5% only from extra cores, if they also add more voltage to really use full 600W+PCI power they can end up at +20% FPS.

The lack of FSR 2 is quite bad, especially considering implementing it is not that much work and dlss does not work in the majority of gpu models out in the wild.

Just in case you want to see this game at 4k in HDR dlss3 with a 4090, which is a world better than sdr videos imo.

I loved the first opus, fantastic story and graphics, played at 4K on Oled TV/6700xt strix OC/4790K@4.8Ghz

Requiem added to my wishlist, I'll wait to get my new hardware arround Chrismas.

Hope by that time they can implement FSR 2.0 as I plan to buy RDNA3 + Zen4 :)

It's really demanding. I think it's too much for the RTX 3060 Ti and 1080p Ultra Settings.
You can try to run it on Linux. On AMD hardware it is faster on Linux, partly because the open source Linux drivers are lightning fast.

Gaming on Linux EP#49: A Plague Tale: Requiem | Steam | Nobara | 3700X 6600XT

Q: From the reviews I've seen the game runs terrible on PCs better than what this is recorded with. Was there a patch that fixed performance or does this just run better with proton than native windows?
A: I did not test Windows, but I am using a mix of High/medium settings and low drawing distance, as it kills performance
Q: The numbers you see on VKD3D with that hardware are awesome! A comparision to Windows would be very interesting.

I would advise AMD GPU owners to test the performance on Nobara Project, Void Linux, AlmaLinux and Clear Linux.

The sudden appearance of the Nvidia logo in this sequel makes me highly suspicious. We didn't need high-end hardware to play it before that logo appeared. Very strange "coincidence."

This game has more stunning graphics than its predecessor, and the predecessor looked better than most games. I must say that it is relatively playable on the RX 570 on High settings in Linux at 1080p. It stays above 30 fps more than 96% of the time and this game feels fluid when it hits more than 30 fps. You also know how old and how cheap the RX 570 was.

This was also the case with the predecessor, which I played on very weak hardware at mostly over 30 fps and it was super responsive, which you can see here:

FSR 2.1.2 was implemented on this game as a mod, there is some patching needed, or using pre patched files that someone already did, but works perfectly fine, is compatible with the 3 versions of the game, I'm using it on the Steam version

That game really does look impressive.
How is the plot and gameplay? Normally I'm skeptical about games that look very good and this one does look awesome. When they look great the plot and gameplay sucks. Hope that is not the case here.

The game is mainly compared to The Last of Us, because the gameplay would have many similarities. Many people find it even better than TLOU2.

In terms of gameplay challenge, it won't be as challenging as God of war or Assassin's Creed. If you have a high skill level and find a lot of challenge important then you can stay hungry.

There are still parts where A Plague Tale is better than God of war and Assassin's Creed, so it's pretty similar to the level of the best AAA games: https://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-series-x/a-plague-tale-requiem

running a 5800X3D + 4090 and it micro stutter the hell out at 4k@60hz same at 4k@120hz with DLSS 2. Tried frame limiting the Nvidia control panel and GPU Power limit. Nothing seems to work.

It does not stutter on Linux systems.

With the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards shipping today, NVIDIA has published their first R529 series Linux driver with initial support for the GeForce RTX 40 "Ada Lovelace" graphics cards.

I think the following Linux distros will already have this newer driver for your GPU:

They seem to have added official support for FSR2 with the latest patch.
The option in the menu is "resolution optimizer" which seems to utilize either DLSS or FSR upscaling based on your GPU.
Neither technology is explicitly mentioned, but the menu clearly states "temporal upsampling" in the description, so it can't be FSR1, and unless they have added their own method, it has to be FSR2.
However the slider has an "ultra quality" option, which is not typical of either method.
I guess it's something to investigate further.

[edit] The "ultra quality" option seems to be simply native resolution. I'd say they overthought the menu some...

Has anyone played it with 2080ti?
Is it bearable or I should postpone playing it?

This game looks amazing especially at native 4k getting around 80 fps maximum settings without dlss on 4090 @ 85% power limit and 7700x at 5.65 ghz on all cores overclock. This game is currently on the Steam sale around $37 fyi. On dlss3 set to quality getting with dlss2 getting 185 fps at 4k max settings but the image is definitely less crisp. I recommend playing it on native for Maximum eye candy! Very addicting puzzle game. I am likely going to play the original one after this one.

You should definitely play the first one tho expect less eye candy ofc but the game still looks good and the game itself is great.
I've played Requiem on a 2560x1080 Ultrawide monitor with a 3060 Ti and it looked amazing and in my case DLSS Quality was actually better than native, it fixed some weird vegetation flickering issues and I couldn't tell the difference in overal image quality.

Btw the game had a performance update recently which boosted my average frames by 10 or so vs relase version at the most demanding scenes with lots of rats and whatnot so it should run better now. :)
