Someone who has been doing it for a very long time, hit a wall and does not want to spent the time repeatedly fixing issues.
You have no idea how much code you have to analyse in machine code, and then reverse engineer it.....
There are lots of programmers out there, but very few who can reverse engineer machine code.
You could imagine it this way, someone finds an exploit in Windows code and makes a virus, Microsoft fix said code.
In this case its not a virus but a way to unlock software code, and then it gets fixed in an update.

The biggest problem is the creators themselves, they will lock for example Dolby to a specific device with a license.
As a consumer you are NOT able to buy a license on a random device, that does not come with one.
In a scenario where you purchased a mobo with Dolby, you cant use that with your USB headphones.
