Check that the app was updated automatically and that the driver package was installed correctly.

is default installation good enough for better sound quality?
You select the enhancements to install to your liking. Free selection.

Having fun with IDA Pro?
NO. From the tests I conducted, this spatial sound format is ONLY available for the analog output point, and it is not possible to apply it to S/PDIF, for example.

Hmmm, DTS:X Ultra was a bit like that, but adding the APO keys to SPDIF and making some changes, it became available on SPDIF.
In terms of for example DTS:X for home theatre through the Sound Unbound app, you add the format to SPDIF.

I am not on Windows 11, but I can show you Atmos on SPDIF due to adding the format.

If you talking about APO's then you might be able to do something about it, if its app then only format support will work.
The format route will need the SPDIF device to support PCM 8 channel out, which most of us don't have.

There is 'some' chance to be able to do Atmos over SPDIF in ARC form, but most receivers I doubt support it.

----

Personally I have an 8 channel HDMI to 8 channel SPDIF converter, but my Z906 only supports 2 channel input. I don't use it.

Final solution: Open the "AAF Audio Tweak Tool" on your Desktop and on the flashing red message "Has RTKHDAUD.DAT", click on the "X" button on its left. Then check the "Customized Platform" box and set all values to 0 (zero) as in the image below. Click Save to save the changes and restart your computer.

Looks like the "No Realtek HDAUDIO" problem on MSI laptops is a installer problem, old installer (9648) with new driver (9738 update1) can be installed

What converter/extractor are you using for 8 channel output? I'd love to get the hdfury VRROOM one day

HDV-MB01, but with re-programmed EDID. I contacted the manufacturer about LPCM 7.1, as the unit officially supports LPCM 5.1 over SPDIF-Optical, they confirmed 7.1, can be used.
I asked how they did their SPDIF, they responded with there is no physical SPDIF, simply the SPDIF config (see below) and optical out (125 Mbits/s is likely).

Its an older model, so only 18 Gbits/s video. It has a built in virtual monitor, so no actual display device is needed.
You will need a multichannel SPDIF receiver such as the one I linked in the previous post.

https://igate.ecdcom.com/External Links/directconnect/hdmi/42003.pdf | Make sure you have [current] standard TOSLink cables (6mm outer).
Note that Realtek could indeed support more than 2 channel SPDIF output (and all formats), using the current standard.

Welcome back! Question, just did a clean reinstall upgrading from 9655, and now my master volume control doesn't work. It's stuck at 100% no matter what I've tried!

I'm using ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-I GAMING with the Realtek / SupremeFX S1220A chip onboard sound.

E-APO can only upmix, for example 2 channels to 6, the system-device must already be in 6 channel mode. Upmixer and multichannel are two different things.

There are two types of upmixing, pseudo upmixing (expand), or stereo surround (cloned), even my father with tinnitus dislikes expand.
Persoanlly I have never liked expand, even with Creative X-fi it was shit, still is even with hardware version.

For example Logitech Z906 can upmix stereo into expand or stereo surround, expand = lots of noise and THD, mostly from the rear.

With Realtek and analogue, there should be a speaker fill option in the Realtek app, that is stereo expand.

====

Also note that the ESS Sabre DAC's used commonly now, also use the current SPDIF standard (SPDIF receiver like the Cirrus Logic I linked previously).
So if the AVR manufacturer has used 125 Mbits/s TOSLink modules, and the correct circuit, it should be able to do 15+ channels.

On a side note, if-when we do get Realtek SPDIF 15+, DTS APO4 multichannel EFX (PCM processor, 32 bit float), supports 12 channels and any number.

I had the same problem on my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro laptop. After installing, my speakers were very loud and I could not control the volume. Also, I had to turn on sound enhancement in the system sound settings to change the sound of the computer, but after turning on sound enhancement, the system sound became very loud and uncontrollable, always staying at the same loudness. Now I have found a solution. When reinstalling, I unchecked the option to install bus control and the problem was solved. However, sound enhancement still has to be turned on for Dolby or DTS sound effects to work. Also, my Dolby Atmos would not turn on in spatial sound, but after clicking into the software settings, it still works.

Hello guy, nice to see you here again and your MAGIC...for you who has got a problem "no HDAUDIO device" or "could not convert variant of type (null) into type (olestr) " use must to uninstall audio driver, previous aaf and etc, and then in device manager manually install microsoft hd audio for sound device. then will work both of aaf installation. if not, then via ddu uninstall audio and gpu driver and repeate manuall hd driver installation

EDIT: after delete gpu driver via ddu i lost driver for intel smart sound. it could be installed manually from inf file

Hmm,I wonder if the VRROOM can do the same thing. It does HDMI 2.1 and can extract the audio through it's optical out/3.5mm port. It supports up to 40 gbps, and the EDID programmer they make Dr. HDMI 8K bumps it up to 48

Question, @Ferather @AAF Optimus Do you guys know how to permanently tell Realtek that I have Side Speakers plugged into the Rear Blue jack 100% for 7.1? It will always ask me if I plugged something in, then sometimes say I unplugged it. Work for some time, then next wake from sleep/restart, ask again. If I don't click it in time it disables it again.

@nickarcade, you would need to go to their site and scroll down, looking for 'Contact us'. Specify the model of the unit, and ask if optical out supports more than 2 channels.
If they are using the current SPDIF consumer standard, or professional standard (can have both), then it should support 15+ channel LPCM (PCM).

HDMI and SPDIF still use an HDA bus (unless its USB SPDIF), which is limited to ~37 Mbits/s. The most you can do I think is 32 channels 24 bit 48k, based on HDMI 2+.
If it comes with its own EDID programmer, then its likely they opted for programmable SPDIF, so I would contact them, use my posts as notes.

----

@YodaSkate, that feature is app controlled, without the app, I think you simply just set 7.1 and rear blue becomes side, not sure though for me blue defaults to line in.

Yeah, I've it set on Realtek Audio Console, and for awhile it still kept changing by itself/unplugging itself. It seems to be sticking now for the moment. I rolled back to 9655 drivers as the new 9738 drivers has no volume control at all for me.
