What I gathered is it goes back to the time of Chavez. He brought socialism to Venezuela and was removing or doing what the US didn't want him to do - socialized the oil and gas industry in Venezuela which Exxon had a huge control on. Then he moved closer to Russia and China in terms of political and military development. As of recent of what John Bolton said "This is America's backyard" it quickly became clear what US intentions are in Venezuela. That, and they also did specify how much oil Venezuela has on more than one account (apparently the most known reserves in the world, above Saudi Arabia). And there are 2 major refineries in Texas that refine Venezuelan Oil into petrol and these 2 refineries are very large and very expensive because Venezuelan oil is really heavy, and so US ended up buying a ton of it in the past.

Its about controlling what is around you and having access to its resources.

so basically its an alternative supply of oil independent of the middle east.. expensive to refine but useful if middle eastern supplies dry up..

Essentially. And the US then cries foul of how the people are after facing heavy sanctions.

But I will also say it was Venezuela's fault for not actively trying to diversify its economy and trying to invest in expansion of its agriculture and pharmaceuticals. If you are going to do things that Uncle Sam is not wanting you to do, then you should be prepared to become self reliant so that your own people dont suffer.

So far, many people in the world seem to be conveniently ignoring the protests and outrage going on in Ecuador. Moreno fled the capital to a military base because of the protests. But because he is supported by certain people and Ecuador isn't considered important, their peoples demands are ignored.

yeah, I don't trust what the general American MSM says, so no. I went with what a real person posts, not an organization which has agenda's. Lets not fool ourselves to believe US government doesn't fund media organizations which they openly admit to it anyway.

I dont doubt there are poor people starving. But those are not the people who would be buying Adobe software in the first place. I mean, I can just post videos of homeless tent cities in the United States and state "America has way more pressing issues in housing and feeding their homeless or providing medical assistance to people instead of trying to stir trouble in other countries" but we know that wont solve anything nor really anything to do with this topic altogether.

The sanctions, as always with economic sanctions, only affect the common citizen. The ruling elites, whoever and wherever, will always have means to shelter themselves.
On the other hand, those who believe Western governments are well intentioned when they economically choke foreign countries need to have their heads examined.

Sanctioning isn't nice, but useless it most certainly is not. And its not about the individuals, but about the regime as a whole. Sure, the rich get away with it, but that was never the point, they always do. But they still do lose a lot of power and influence, which is the point.

i follow this geo political stuff quite closely but still cant quite figure why the US government fells the need wage economic war on Venezuela.. what exactly is the significance of the place or it leaders relative to the US..

South-American socialist states tend to turn into highly corrupt and economical failures. Tropico ad infinitum, really. Not exactly the best neighbours to have. Its a push for capitalist values, goes back to 'fighting the Reds'. The US really doesn't like it and even today many Americans are keen to confuse sensible socialism (it cán be done right, look at Europe) with communism in its worst form.

Remember, Cuba turned into a Soviet launch site at some point, too.
