Advertising Gbps on Video Cards

It's just an issue if you can't make out the difference between GB and Gbps - I don't think Asus is remotely in business or need to deceive anyone. It's still a premium brand.

Most people believe MB and Mbps are one and the same. Yes obviously the vast majority of people on the forum know the difference between a 1060 3GB and 1060 6GB card even beyond the simple increase in RAM. They know an AMD bulldozer CPU @ 3GHZ is not the same as an Intel skylake CPU @ 3ghz. They know a superflower PSU 550w will out perform the shenzen special 700w now featuring ATX 1.3 specs.

My point is the general PC public will have a hard time deciphering the difference.

Nvidia, not Asus is labeling cards this way.

really? that is interesting. So this is a counter to the AMD launch of the 580?

Anyone else have an issue with this product? I'm not picking on just Asus as I own many of their fine products and they are certainly not the first company to use deceptive marketing but this clearly aimed at consumers thinking they are purchasing a 9GB (not gigabit) video card.

ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB 9Gbps Edition
I think it fair to argue it does say 6GB first , and if you don't know what Gbps means , your probably in the wrong shop.

Maybe... Most likely Nvidia planned this way before 5xx series. It most likely just a matter of faster RAM being produced more than what it replaced and Nvidia is putting it on their existing cards. So, these cards are the same cost as what they replaced (even cheaper going by launch prices) and you get a small, free performance boost with it.

It still says 6GB, it even says it right before the 9Gbps. If they removed the 6GB in the title, and from the box, then you'd have a point.

Yes, nVidia updated their cards with faster memory. The manufacturers have to add the updated spec to their marketing and product titles to indicate the faster cards.

Newtekie pretty much answered it for me.

For me it's not deceiving and you can see negativity anywhere if you want - but I at least don't concur here.

Either your home is empty, or you're an expert on every electrical device and vehicle you own.

The Titan X pascal, Titan Xp and 1080ti share GP102, the 1080FE, 1080, 1070 and even some 1060's all share GP104. Don't know why YouTube you were watching, but might want to fact check some more.

I'm assuming he means different cuts of the chip.

I just take issue with the Titan Xp. That non-capital "p" is just wrong.

And housing, and heating, and woodworking, plastering, painting, masonry, chemistry...

I mean every company does it...

There is a reason my personal belongings can fit in the back of a small pickup truck, so yes if I had a house it would be pretty empty.
