Alienware have announced their new flagship gaming monitor, which manifests in the form of the AW3420DW monitor. This is a 34" monitor with 4K (3440 x 1440) resolution powered by a fast, 120 Hz refresh rate IPS panel. Alienware have designed their Nano Color technology into this monitor, which means that it can cover 98% of the DCI-P3 and 134.5% of the sRGB color gamuts.

The 350 nits brightness are nothing to write home about, and exclude any sort of HDR rendition on this monitor from the start. The 1000:1 contrast ratio and the "fast" GtG response time should be more than enough for most gamers' needs, and the 1900R curvature should ensure all points of the monitor are at the same focal distance for improved image quality. NVIDIA's G-Sync makes an appearance, and output connectors include 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x HDMI 1.4 port, 4x USB 3.0 and 3.5-mm audio connectors. There's RGB lighting on the back of the monitor, and the full retail price of this piece of kit will go for $1,499.

maybe for 1100 max. but for that price i'd rather buy LG top of the line OLED 4k tv /shrug

How, exactly, is 3440*1440 "4K"? UHD is 3840*2160, so a 21:9 UHD resolution would then be 2160 pixels tall. This isn't even cropped 21:9 UHD, which would be 3840 pixels wide. This is ultrawide 1440p. Please stop repeating misleading marketing bs.

The design looks good but I am not gonna buy that price for this monitor I can properly find something better when I choose to upgrade my Dell S2417DG (24inch, 1440p 165hz with G-sync) when that time comes.

it's dell so the last version was a $1,200 msrp that was on sale for $799 9 months later.

Still, doesn't seem like a huge upgrade from the current version apart from the nano-ips

PC monitor companies' milking days are soon to come to an end. TVs are starting to reach low 10ms in input lag and are adopting more and more gaming features such as VRR and higher refresh rates while offering much larger screen, HDR, significantly superior picture quality at a decent price point. Crap like this monitor doesn't even have full-array local dimming and still cost over $1k for a 34" IPS screen LOL.

I’ll have to compare this to the LG ultragear monitors. In the market for something similar.

yep nothing holds value for long these days it seems. I expect radeon 5700 XT's will be around $200 on ebay around this time next year. nvidia and intel is the only exception, but i think that is mainly due to shortages recently, not actual traditional reason they held value. but i might be wrong we will see

Huh? This makes no sense. It's not 4K if it's 3440x1440. Also I have this monitor without the NanoIPS bullcrap! Everything else is the exact same thing. I only paid $850 so I don't see how this is $1500. It must be really be the 4K wide-screen version (5120×2160 )? Or TechPowerUp is incorrect about the 4K term.

That's nowhere near 4K. Just 1440p stretched.

The funny thing is that the Anandtech article that is cited as the source for this news doesn't mention 4K anywhere. So it isn't Dell touting 4K, it's Techpowerup.

Typo there, 4k 4096x2160, 3840x2160.

3440x1440................. Basically a recycled adw18

Had me excited for a moment.

Then took a look at that bs resolution. FALSE ADVERTISING!!!!

Fake 4K
120Hz not 144Hz
Handicapped 350 nits
Overpriced G-Sync module.

Nobody would want this for $1,499.

Looks like they have stock of old panels and want to see if idiots still exist.

Anything that is not hdmi 2.1 in this age and time is old tech before is even released, waste of money, fail.

So you pay 60% for the monitor just because...brand. Nice! :))

A lot of advertising stickers like 4K that require a lot more lines, so Review will be needed ! Of course, the price is too high, which is expected of all US concerns, as they want big profits for the name and have forgotten that the dollar has grown by 40% recently against other convertible currencies.

So it's an LG34GK950G w/ $300 worth of RGB. *yawn*

*EDIT*
How is the clickbait headline STILL up? Alienware isn't advertising this as a 4k screen at all. It's literally an LG Ultragear w/ RGB, barely even newsworthy, but way to drive traffic TPU. lolz

Couldn't believe it when I read 4K. That's basically what I've been waiting to upgrade my current ultrawide to.

Change the misleading headline.
