AMD 45 Years old today!

My 2nd and 3rd PC's had AMD K6 processors in them (first clocked at 166 and the second clocked at 366. The first may have been 199 but I can't remember). Loved those machines though I did not have the second one long because I managed to snag that one pretty soon after. Those were the days alright when you had those faded white cases (beige whatever) and a display on the front with the speed displayed along with a turbo button (If it worked).

Too much fun!

Also had an Athlon 64 processor on the socket 754. The Athlon 64 3000 at 2.0ghz. Then of course I have my phenom and my FX CPUs.

No stories, though I loved my ABIT NF7-S 2.0 + 2500+ Barton setup. I grew up on Intel basically.

My Venice 3000+ overclocked to 2.9 Ghz... On air. It booted once, shut down after the screen went strange, after that it was unstable even on 2.3 Ghz. (the motherboard was a Asrock Dual-Sata 2, GLORIOUS board)

I still use my AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2.4GHz (socket 939) + ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE + 2GB Kingston HyperX DDR400 CL2.5 + GeForce 7900GTX setup as a backup computer.

45 years , the old sod, happy birthday Amd. I went with cyrix and intel until I bought a Barton core, oh the joy I got from that first self built pc.

My father and I have reduced the quantity of our old computers.
I have a few Athlon 939 CPUs in a box somewhere. One of the 939s is in a full rig from 2005 and works great. Used to have a Pentium Pro (one cpu but dual socket mobo). and an Athlon Thunderbird, got rid of them a few years ago.

We have an Everex Step with a 486 still. It still works but hasn't been run in a few years. The OS is Windows 3.1.

First one was a DX4 followed by a 1.2ghz morgan core duron with 384mb of ram soon upgraded to 768 and finally 1024 before I got my Athlon XP 2500+ on an Albatron KX18D Pro and damn what a board

The turbo button actually downclocked the CPU so programs based off the execution speed of the CPU didn't run too fast. Many programs written at the time were written with the idea that the CPU would never get much faster so the timing of programs were based off the speed of the CPU cycle count.

My first PC was also an AMD CPU. It was 486 DX-40 back in 1993. I was 14 and I remember it having no heatsink, just bare chip ... makes me wonder how my countless Doom and Duke Nukem sessions didn't fry it.

I had a few AMD CPUs (386 & 486) but the one I remember most was the old Thunderbird K7 I had. For it's day it was fast and it cost a lot less than getting Intel.

I know but for some reason none of the machines I had that had them worked. One did nothing (the first machine) and I never had any reason to hook up the button. The second caused the machine to crash so I gave up messing with those.

Those were odd days eh?

I have 2 Axp 2500 Chips (-m and Regular) after accidently crushing a 3200 (never booted back up) both are unlocked. Im currently in progress of building a 8350 machine. I just need a good psu and a R290 to finish it...

my 1st self assembled was a K6-2 400 then i had the Duron 700 you see on the pics and then the AXP 2800+ then a Phenom II X6 then a X4 then a Athlon X4 760K then a A10-7700K and the FX-6300

I have never had an AMD proc in my life, almost bought an Athlon 64 back in its glory days, but I was in a state of flux back then because of my move to the US, but I have had Ati/AMD cards for almost two decades now, gotta recognize that without AMD the whole technology landscape would be completely different right now.

I remember my first AMD CPU was the Athlon XP 2100+ 1.77ghz back in 2002... It lasted about 4 to 5yrs Then got a X2 6000+ 3ghz in 2007 Thing was a beastly upgrade from a Athlon XP 2100+.. Then in late 2008 I got a Phenom X4 9950 2.6ghz & overclocked it to 3ghz.. Not a massive overclock but gd enough for me back then & the CPU was better then I thought mainly due to low expectations because of that bug the first Phenoms had when they came out but gd CPU none the less! .... That was my last AMD CPU I owned & it has now been all Intel since 2009 but I'm really interested in an AMD APU.. Doing a budget LAN build down the road

The first AMD CPU I bought with my own money was Athlon XP 2400+ "Thoroughbred," with an MSI KT4 Ultra. It was teh amazeballs back then.

Agreed,...........they are essential to keeping Intel & NVIDIA's prices down to a low roar. I wish them success.

My first AMD was a K-6 500MHZ. Up till then I had been all Intel. I went back and forth a while across the Initial K7's and Pentium 2's and 3's until the Athlon XP came out. Athlon XP 2000 -> Athlon XP 2500 Barton ->Athlon XP 2600m Barton clocked at 2.7GHZ -> Athlon 64 3500 Newcastle -> Athlon 64 4000 San Diego -> AM2 Athlon 64 FX-62. The bang for the buck was all AMD until core 2 came out. Since then it's been all Intel in the primary rigs.

I still have a K6-400MHZ laptop, Athlon XP 2000, Athlon XP 2600m, Athlon 64 4000 (assumed dead), Athlon 64 3000 (754).

I'll admit. AMD Fanboy, Been with AMD/ ever since my Athlon thunderbird (was my last nvidia card Geforce 4 MX, played the crap out of UT 99 with that rig) Then I built Athlon XP with Radeon 9800 been AMD CPU and video card ever since, felt obligated after AMD bought ATi. I did use nVidia chipsets however.
