AMD Announces Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Bundle with Ryzen 7000-series CPUs

From today, until the first of April, AMD will bundle a game code for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor with all of its Ryzen 7000-series CPUs. The promotion appears to be largely global, but limited to certain retailers, so if your favourite shop doesn't offer the bundled game code, you might have to look elsewhere. AMD offers a list on its website with participating retailers and in the US and Canada, this only appears to be Amazon and Newegg, whereas it varies much more widely in other parts of the world.

Oddly enough, many large retailers in various countries are missing and several countries are absent too, especially in Europe, for no apparent reason. What's even stranger, is that AMD doesn't appear to be offering the game code bundle through its own online shop, at least not in Europe. We should also point out that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor doesn't launch until the 17th of March, so if you jump the gun now, you're going to have to wait a few weeks before you'll be able to play the game.

How do these business deals go down? Does AMD get a price deal on codes sold? Feel like just cutting the price by whatever they paid for the codes would sell better if that's how it works.

I assume a factor is that various retailers get the benefit of increasing the value of the product, without AMD having to reimburse them for a forced price drop (or piss off retailers even more by dropping the price and giving them nothing). Also the actual cost of the deal may be too small to seem worthwhile for an official price cut. Example: say it's approximately $20 per code, is that an "earth shattering" price drop that is really changing minds? In that sense a "$60 game" can actually look a lot more significant than whatever bulk price AMD paid. Additionally, they can make this deal by just talking with the game/software maker, they don't need to come to an agreement with each retailer. They probably just offer codes to retailers as a "take it or leave it" deal to provide with their product. And why would a retailer ever refuse this?
Just my speculation of course, I'm not in marketing.

Hopefully they include the new 3D cache CPUs when they launch in Feb.

The Callisto Protocol and Dead Island 2 are included when you get a 6000 series card, but for some reason not included when you opt for either of the 7900 cards. Probably to attract buyers to buy the older products to move inventory.

Same is going for Company of Heroes™ 3 on the 5000 series but not on the 7000 series CPUs.

This is good news. Modern AAA Games are $80+ so that is pretty substantial and Jedi is a nice refresh of Star Wars. I was planning on getting this and an AM5 X3D anyway and have been sourcing MBs so thanks again AMD. I can't wait to see what my 7900XTX does with one of those chips. I will miss my DDR4 though as it is some wonderful 15-15-15-35 3600 B die so I know people understand that.

I still find it very perplexing to bundle a game with a CPU. Some people buy CPUs with no intention of gaming, so you get a free game for no reason. I would prefer if they just give a 20 to 30 bucks discount.

No. AMD has already confirmed that the X3D chips will launch in February, so the expiration date of this promo shouldn't be taken as an indication of anything.

Zen 4 sales are bad. Maybe globally not Minfactory bad (DIY PC enthusiasts are a picky bunch), but it surely is a trend:

Of course platform cost increase, combined with low performance increase is to blame. More expensive motherboards and more expensive memory didn't bring any big increase in performance or usability.

I wonder if people also wanted to wait and see what 3D cache models will bring? 5800X3D proved quite an improvement in gaming, maybe at least enthusiasts are just waiting for that?

Wow, I went on Canada Computers this morning and these all come with Jedi. I wish the X3D Chips were available but the 7900X for $589 CAD is not bad considering.

Intel was giving away codes to that Avengers looter-shooter game (which was relatively new at the time) when I bought my Core i7-10700 back in late 2020, and the first thing I did when I got it was to sell the code on Reddit for like $25. So in my case it was like getting a discount, but with extra steps.

DIY enthusiasts are the biggest market for zen CPUs, the business world is still hooked on intel as is the consumer PC space, although zen has made inroads there. Even in servers intel still has a dominant marketshare.

Actually, didn't care for the original. It felt clunky and wasn't fun. I know I'm in the minority. But I didn't need a free game to jump on AM5. On that at least I'm pretty sure it's not just me.
