well since no waterblocs out are am3+ compatible listed I gotta wait on that as well. I did order compression fittings and tubing though.

Mounting holes are the same as AM3, AM2+, AM2, s939 etc..

uh, as far as i can remember AthlonXP(T-bred B/Barton) had a decent line against the netburst Pentium 4's even with having much lower clock speeds (my AXP 2500+ barton still functions up to now lol), Athlon64/Athlon64 X2/Athlon64 FX pretty much raped the Pentium 4's/Pentium D's afaik, but Intel launched with the Core microarchitecture (Core 2 Duo/Extreme) to prevent anymore raping :|

No, you can run Bulldozer on AM3 just fine but like in your VRM thread?(not sure who made a VRM thread to lazy to search for it lol) the Bulldozer chips require more AMPs and Voltage...basically blowing up any low quality VRM in the process

If you can run Bulldozer on your AM3 with a Bios patch
Well don't expect Turbo Core 2.0 and Cool N Quiet to run

Well, it runs on SOME AM3 boards. Not mine, and not many others, but yes, some. And this is a departure from AMD's usual upgrade structure, where you usually could find a new chip for your mobo a long time after said mobo was even discontinued. It isn't that big a deal either way.

Black socket isn't required but it means you can run ALL of the features of Bulldozer

There is a lot more chipsets that support AM3+ cpu on the AM3 socket

White Socket = Maybe, You don't have a warranty

Black Socket = Absolutely supported, You have a warranty

So, if you buy the cpu oem and get a motherboard oem well get 890FX+OEM FX
and blast those cpus with LN2 wabam! since you don't have a warranty on the white socket, regardless

Nope man, we're screwed. Gigabyte isn't updating the Bios, they want us to pay for a black socket revision. I e-mailed them about the situation when Asus announced that they were going to do Bios updates and they told me that they weren't because AMD wasn't supporting it.
That was my driving force for looking at anyone other than Gigabyte for my next board.

That's assuming that you are using the board in your system specs, which is the same as mine.

We are sorry to let you know that, since AMD changed their AM3+ pin out, old version AM2+/AM3 socket mother board not able to support AM3+ processor. Due to processor pin out physically changed Bios update not able to make board works. User need to have rev 3.1 board to work with AM3+ processor.

Zambezi sells to the enthusiast market, which is <10% of market. Llano sells to the mainstream which is probably 70%+ of the market.

Zambezi sells only into desktops (that I am aware of) which is a shrinking market and Llano sells into desktop and mobile which is a growing market.

To me that is the essence of strategy - prioritize products around a large, growing market and over a small, shrinking market. But, then what do I know, I'm a server guy.

Thank god i went with SB instead of waiting for BD.
And if the VRM of the AM3 boards is not up to the task, that just prooves my asumption that BD will be even more power hungry than PhenomII x6. Epic fail imho.

Or you can look at the Bulldozer's specification and compare it to Phenom II X6s spec and you'll be able to work out which is more power hungry.

I did that, but if people are saying AM3 boards are not capable of running BD becouse of high voltage and high current draw.

Wattage = voltage x current
