AMD CEO Lisa Su, who has supervised the company's rise from the ashes, looked to assuage fears of reduced stock for the launch of AMD's next-gen Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. Hardware enthusiasts being understandably burned from the last generation of GPU and CPU's lack of availability (and ensuing scalping practices), the CEO in today's announcement of the Ryzen 7000 series carried a promise: "It is true that if you look at the past 18 months there have been a number of things, whether its capacity limitations or logistics," she said. "From an AMD standpoint, we have dramatically increased our overall capacity, in terms of wafers, as well as substrates and on the back end. So with our launch of Zen 4 we don't expect any supply constraints."

AMD's Zen 4 family is being launched with the new AM5 socket, which AMD says will live through 2025+ for subsequent CPU releases. The company has managed to increase IPC by 13% while decreasing the overall CCD size by 18% compared to that of Zen 3 (reducing the area/cost impact of adding integrated graphics throughout the lineup). Frequencies have gone up to a maximum 5.7 GHz thanks to smart circuitry redesign and TSMC's 5 nm node. AMD says its Ryzen 7000 can thus be expected to provide up to 29% higher single-core and 45% higher multi-core performance. Of course, with macroeconomics being what they are, and recent reports on lack of low-price chips throughout the market, it's not only the availability of Ryzen 7000 CPUs that matters: AM5 motherboards and DDR5 memory chip stocks have to be taken into account as well. But all in all, AMD seems to be prepared for a successful and quantity-adequate launch.

Well strong availability of higher priced CPUs with higher priced motherboards and RAM.

And Intel releasing new chips with a complete product range from budget to high-end, DDR4 support, etc. shortly afterwards.

I don't see there being a shortage, lol.

So, how can you call this launch?
1. Great;
2. So-so;
3. Epic fail?
Just good. Good performance improvements and QoL, but the new platform as well as lack of budget options and only slight price cuts makes it hard to justify (yet). I suppose we couldn't get around the new platform stuff, but I'm glad it's happening now and the future generations will be much less harsh. Hopefully AM5 will be much more suitable for later upgrades (not like AM4 with small bios chip, only PCIe 3.0, lack of support for newer chips, etc).

complete product range from budget to high-end
not true
Edit: I also don't see how am5 board will have higher priced MB, ddr4 v ddr5 z690 board's price is usually the same.

Well, hopefully. I have my eyes on the i5 13500 if it really is going to be 6P+8E.
It will be a little bit of a wait. The sub $300 raptor lakes along with B760 and H760 isn't rumored till late January. Will be interesting to see if AMD has there sub $300 options out by the same quarter
Afaik they only plan to release three skus
I believe this is correct. K cpus and Z boards only until after CES 2023

I still predict shortages of launch next gen gpu's from all sides. I wish they would put some of the CPU resources and TSMC factory time into less CPU and more into GPU. I want a 7800 XT gpu damnit. :(

Well, how is this a difference, when you'll be waiting several months for the b650e launch motherboards from AMD?

By the time both lineups have the whole value set available, you might-as-well wait until CES! So, I hope AMD has a much quicker price-cut response than the 8 months it took them for the 5700x!

well Intel at least have a budget range to sell, whether it be 12th gen, 13th gen, or even 10th gen.

They literally announced yesterday that B650 and B650E are coming out in October.

Not exactly sure how October equals "waiting several months" ? (CPUs aren't even out till September 27th so October is hardly a signficant wait)

and amd also had budget range, ryzen 1000, 3000, 5000 was really late but amd did have them.

you'll still be waiting months for the cheap motherboards to surface (and since Raptor Lake can use the whole lineup, its going to be harder to justify that wait for cheap AM5)
it's 1 month not "months"

I never said anything about dirt cheap boards, I would never recommend the absolute lowest of the lowest (especially in intels case with the garbage throttling VRMs on the bottom level B boards). $150-200 will be available in October which is hardly "months and months away"
(and since Raptor Lake can use the whole lineup, its going to be harder to justify that wait for cheap AM5)
That's assumming you already own an Alder-Lake CPU. Raptor Lake will need a bios update to work on 6 series motherboards and every single motherboard I looked into (B and H series, even read the manuals) didn't offer the option for bios update without CPU.

It was good! There were a few oddities about the presentation (specifically not showing Intel's numbers for a lot of live benchmarks) but overall I think it was a strong showing. I think Intel is going to have to absolutely blast the power limits if they want to pull ahead this upcoming gen. I'm gonna stick with my AM4 rig until it's wheels fall off though, Zen3/RDNA2 is currently able to do everything I need it to without breaking a sweat. But if the competition between these two stays this hot there might be a real decision to be made between Zen 5 and Meteor Lake. Hyped for this sorely needed era of CPU innovation, waiting on the edge of my seat for each companies CPU release again feels good.

And a reminder to WAIT FOR THIRD PARTY BENCHMARKS FOR DEFINITIVE PERFORMANCE NUMBERS!!!

Well I'm running the latest BIOS on my Z690 Aorus Master, I flashed to latest in hope to resolve some smalll issues but it was also the second BIOS with Raptor Lake CPU's support.

Just checked another cheap motherboard BIOS update, I don't see any reason not be able to flash it with an ALder Lake CPU....
I was referring to flashing the bios to support Raptor Lake without using an Alder-lake CPU. He was basically inferring that Raptor-lake will already have a full line-up for boards at launch which I said is true if your already invested into the platform (I looked at almost 15 different 600 series H and B boards and all of them would not work with Raptor Lake unless you have a 12th gen CPU to use to flash it).

Yeah I was a bit too fast...
However there are many motherboards these days that you can flash without a CPU.

Not many people will be upgrading with that entry price point.

So, how do you think the 6-core / 12-thread Ryzen 5 7600X fare against the much stronger 14-core / 20-thread Core i5-13500?

Pretty good considering it doesn't exist yet. Also AM5 will have multiple gens of CPUs on it, this socket is dead after raptor lake.

I wish them a strong demand and even stronger availability.

Also, I wish for all of us that lower tire zen4 will be available in even larger availability BEFORE intel swing hard on the mid-low market, as happened with gen12.

If they can't than zen4, no matter how good it will be, will not cash in it's potential.

Yeah, I think it is the worst time this year or this 7th generation Ryzen to invest in AM5.
