Although physically away from the 2022 International CES, AMD is hosting a virtual press event to announce many new consumer products. The year's biggest tech-show allows AMD to talk about its latest, and next-generation architectures, the products it has in store for 2022, as well as introduce new technology. We expect the company to unveil "Zen 4" from a consumer perspective, its next-generation mobile processors, and much more. Stay tuned as we live-blog the event as it unfolds.

So 6 years of waiting, and we get a 5500xt with a gimped 4GB 64 bit bus with a 6500xt nameplate for the same price as a RX 480 in 2016. After stating in 2020 that the 4GB GPU was "dead".

I think we need to rename "finewine" to "sour grapes". Cmon, intel kick AMD's arse with the A380 please.

nVidia hasnt even dared to release 3050 on desktop and if they do it would be similarly priced to 6500XT.

Only one CPU with 3D cache and that, with 8 cores! They even hold the core clocks and W down as to the 5800X to allow Zen4 CPUs to seem an even bigger jump in performance with their 5GHz all-core clocks and improved IPC. As for RX5500XT, availability will make it or brake it. For 1650Ti performance and low power draw (~100W), the $200 price would be decent ONLY if it stays there. At least for the near future, good gaming without spending a fortune will be had through consoles, mobile or APUs.
 
They definitely dropped the ball this time. Intel is way ahead and all amd can come up with is some laptop cpu's, an e-waste gpu. The 5700X3D looks okay though.

Test 3D cache on existing chips, Milk an old DDR4 socket w upgrade path for existing users, hedge against chip shortage/AM5 mobo shortage, hedge against DDR5 availability...

Provide a cheaper performance options when Zen4 turns out to be overpriced unobtanium.

Interesting choice to compare 5800x3d to the 5900x. Me thinks the difference wouldn't have been nearly as much vs the 5800x.

AMD certainly wants to sell you the more expensive (overpriced?) CPU, but the Ryzen 7 5800X is actually the fastest option because of its single CCD architecture.
 
I just laughed looking at my B350 the moment Lisa Su said "Zen 3D Supported by the AM4 platform" like she didn't just put my fellow 300 chipset owners(except OEM's A320) in the planned obsolescence bin to force us to buy B550/X570 and upgrade to a borderline EOL socket.

They can easily launch 12c/16c variants of the chip if the 5800xd is well received. 7nm will stay with us for years, it's going nowhere anytime soon!

They won't, there is a shortage going on and it would affect Zen4 sales.

Realistically, we can expect 15-20% gaming gains from Zen4 mainly in cpu limited scenarios. If they release 5900x or 5950x 3D, there wouldn't be many reasons to upgrade, you wold get similar performance with way cheaper boards and ram. I can already bet there will be also an additional 50 - 100 USD premium for Zen 4 if they remain faster than Intel, then they cut the price,.

That's why there is only a 5800x 3D.

And you know this how? Shortage won't last forever! AMD itself is moving to 6nm/5nm & smaller nodes so they'll have enough capacity to move some of the SKU's to 3d(Vcache) if they see good demand for it.
 
First no 5600 and 5700X, now only 5800X3D. Asshole move, AMD (Zen4 must be a really minor upgrade vs. Zen3+ if they are afraid of competing with their own product).

And the fact that they are comparing the 5800X3D to 5900X tells you all you need to know about the price of that thing.

Why only Ryzen 7, not Ryzen 5/Ryzen 9? Because this is a new project for AMD, they want to find out how a processor like this will be welcomed into the market. A lot of users (myself included) expected AMD to go all-in with a big 16-core version, however anything Ryzen 9 requires two chiplets, and adding the extra V-Cache does require an extra cost in silicon and packaging. During a semiconductor shortage, I was told that this is the best way to get it into the hands of many people while also not in the super high-cost bracket. It also means one single unified 96 MB of L3 cache, without having to deal with two chiplets worth which might not be optimized immediately. Future versions of V-Cache on next-generation products may be expanded to other Ryzen members of the family.
