AMD's first response to Intel's 9th generation Core "Coffee Lake Refresh" processors could be that of 5-10% price-cuts of its Ryzen "Pinnacle Ridge" processors across the board, according to a pricing list compiled by Techspot. These cuts could see the company's Ryzen 7 2700X priced just below the $300-mark. These cuts will be introduced not just by AMD, but also retailers.

The $200-300 segment could get crowded, with the 8-core/16-thread 2700X at around $295, the Ryzen 7 2700 (non-X) at $265, and the 6-core/12-thread Ryzen 5 2600X drop to around $210. Intel's only sub-$300 offering from its 9th generation family is the 6-core/6-thread Core i5-9600K. The sub-$200 segment will see the Ryzen 5 2600 go for $160, a rather compelling price for a 6-core/12-thread chip, given that Intel's cheapest 6-core offering, the i5-8400, is now retailing for $220, and that the company only has the quad-core i3-8350K around this price, at $170.

lol intel cpu's increasing in price

Perhaps we will finally see the 2800X appear.

Thats cool and all, always nice to get cheaper CPU's but does AMD really need to cut there prices with Intel only going up?

Only they know

Most likely AMD is trying to sieze this moment and grab as much matket share as possible.

well then 2700X it is ..

That's what it is, but I don't see any point in more than a 5% drop. The 2700X at $289, and 2600 at $159 is more than cheap enough.

That or they could be trying to pull a fast one on Intel and will launch Zen 2 much sooner than anticipated, which i highly doubt.

They could however be trying to move inventory to create more space for Zen 2, which is much more likely, though that would still mean Zen 2 would launch sooner than anticipated, but not as soon as the above alternative: still doubtful.

Your hypotheses makes more sense!

One thing seems certain, though: this topic would need to be changed ... 66% should now be 80% ...

i wonder how much lower they can go. it must be really cheap for amd to make and sell these procs. in the states you can get a ryzen 7 1700 for $189 +/- 10% depending on taxes.

They did start 2x00 series in March Q1. AMD might be looking to make room for Zen2 and might use the CES 2019 Keynote to start the "hype" or surprise us.

It could also mean a couple of things ~
1) They want to take away more market share from Intel
2) &/or Zen2 isn't far off

Great minds think alike :toast:

I guess the EPYC sales aren't great atm, so selling desktop chips, even at a lower margin, seems the most logical choice.
If they were selling loads in server space, like Intel, we'd probably see a shortage or at the very least no price depreciation.

Dunno how a consumer would complain about that.

It would be like me complaining about a pretty good vehicle dropping in price when I am looking to buy.

Good, lower prices for the next gen. then.

AMD is entering "holy $hit" mode now with its pricing!

amd's Ryzen at this point has so good value - that you even can grab R7 2700X + mobo + cooler use and abuse it and after 1+ year when you feel like upgrade again - you can throw it in the bin or give your kidds to play with - and still loose much less than buying mainstream intel i7 and selling it for 60-70% of value, which is highly unlikely given current price gouging the fact that z390 and 9th gen will be on par with old z170 and 6th gen (with more cores) - aka one will want/need to update that old platform as soon as anything decent comes out from any camp

While many will appreciate a price cut, it's kinda weird seeing them doing it right now as next gen Ryzen is still far from release and Intel's pricing is barely a threat to AMD's pricing :wtf:

funny AMD, you're still the winner of price/perf without lowering the price. wtf

Long live to Athlon.

Ryzen 2600 is selling for 149.99 right now on newegg and you can get up to 25$ discount if bundled with a compatible motherboard.

I've been with Intel ever since I sold my Athlon64 X2. But if I had to upgrade today, that 2600X looks pretty sweet.

I'm not complaining at all, price cuts are always good for us, but that's why AMD is always short of money.

Margins are already low, and when they finally have a chance to make serious money, they shorten it even more.
