AMD CTO Mark Papermaster Confirms 7 nm Lineup Refresh for 2019

I am hopelessly confused.
I thought Navi was something architecturally new that was supposed to come after Vega. What is this then? That's not Navi :-O
No, it's not. If it was, people would be calling it so. Navi isn't out yet, and likely won't be for a while yet. It'll launch when it's ready. This is a die-shrink (with some other tweaks) of Vega, hence the VII name - it's a play both on VII as in '7' in Roman numerals for 7nm, And VII as in Vega II. Nothing at all to be hopelessly confused about. Navi is coming, but AMD has yet to tell us when, and for now they've launched this to be reasonably competitive above mid-range performance until Navi does arrive.

Yep, this merely resembles Navi except for tiled rendering & integrated & doubled ROPs.

Considering the price point of Vega VII I don't think AMD is going to release cards with much higher performance. I do hope that they do but I don't really see it. Ideally we would all get a card that outperforms the 2080ti for $50-$100 less. That would definitely light the fire under Nvidia's ass.

AMD gets more fab time with 7nm then anyone else. This is because TSMC is building CPU & GPU this is a big part of TSMC business also why RTX is not 7nm because they can’t get the same price AMD or FAB time due to smaller orders. This puts AMD in a strong position 7nm and beyond with apple cutting back AMD will become TSMC #1
