Can't justify the extra $100 + or the power consumption for these, but it's nice to see that ATi delivered something decent.

Costs too much (yeah that's coming from me) :p Waiting for $500 or less. My buddy had another 4870 waiting for me when I went to see his X2 in action...that sob is ~fast~, really ~fast~. I'll get one (but just one)...no one needs 2 of these things. I can deal with the 2 4870s for now until the X2 recovers from release shock.

$550 isn't a bad price point. I figured it would be higher. Wonder if Nvidia will drop their GTX280s lower now that this thing is out.

EDIT
Woot and already a review
/EDIT

8.8 for the new card from our reviewer.I think I will wait now for a little more driver advancement and you ALL know this thing will be at least 100 bucks cheaper in 3-4 weeks.;)

The 280gtx is 100$ cheaper but it's waaay slower than the 4870x2.
In term of price performance the 4870x2 wins over the 280gtx.
the 4870x2 outperforms the 280gtx in sli in almost every game. , in crysis,it's 35% faster than the 280gtx at 1900*1200 res with very-high setts and it becomes 62% faster at the same res. with 4xaa.

I hear you on that, nice performance with one x2 but in crossfire for the fairly small gain you get how could anyone afford to game for any length of time using 752 watts ? The single x2is fairly efficient, granted it's still fairly high but for it's performance is still close to your best bang for energy used.

The scaling of the X2 compared to just a single 4800 gpu is quite impressive. It's seems ATI got it right this time.

I wonder if I can talk Palit into sending me 2 4850X2's :D lol
