AMD Product Pages Say Upcoming 7950X3D and 7800X3D "Unlocked for Overclocking"

Instead of throttling at 95 degree like any other zen4 cpu, it will at 89 degree.
So at same w consumption at full load you will need better cooling to avoid throttling.

But those 3dv cpu's come with lower TDP of 120w instead of 170w (or baselin w) and lower MHz so it might end up equivalent when it come to cooling requirements.
We will see.
I dont think it did throttle at 95c according to AMD that is the operating temp and the CPU performs as advertised.
If they come with lower TDP that is even better I would say. Sure we will see.

Soon February why cant we get a release date?

Yeah, IIRC it's voltage-locked and multiplier locked, but not clock-locked, right. Perhaps AMD have removed the multiplier lock for the 7000-series X3D models?

I don't actually have any X3D chips, though I'll probably dump one in my home rig to give it a cheap boost rather than forking out for Zen4 or Raptor Lake.
BLCK overclocking which pushes your PCIE out of spec isn't something I would do on a 5800X3d.

I would stick with PBO2 tuner.

If this isn't a listing mistake, I'd put money on the overclocking only being applied to the non-vCache CCD

I was sure I saw a tweet from AMD official that the X3D Zen4 chips would still be locked...
7800x3d has one CCD.

So, no.

I am glad they are doing it and letting people play with them. Will be interesting to see if they overclock a reasonable amount (Not holding my breath however)

30th February confirmed.

I will never understand this OC hype for something that's already far past comfortable thermal levels. Asking to be milked by AMD.
Where is 30th confirmed? I like to buy the latest and greatest that's how i roll!

The 30th of February? Have they added a day or two

No idea, you tell me.. You never know with the US they use inches and other weird stuff!

I could not care less myself. CPU OC is pretty much pointless these days, in realworld stuff + gaming you gain like 1% or even lowers performance if you settle with an all-core OC instead of letting turbo handle 1-2 core boosts (which will go higher than a set all-core clock).

GPU OC matters way more. 5-10% perf gain is possible here.

And high speed / low latency memory. This can mean alot in specific workloads and games.

Looking forward to 7000 3D reviews, however I think Intel 14th Gen vs Ryzen 8000/80003D is going to be the real next gen battle and this is when I will upgrade, unless Ryzen 70003D really impresses.

Bad news , locked multiplier. ^_^ , 5Ghz max on 7800x3d

Edit: Question , are they locked in BIOS (agesa) or in the chip itself?

Meh, I do not care much about overclocking given that these should run at a high temps anyway at stock and don't intend to use more exotic cooling solution.
I am a bit more concerned/annoyed that it is now the end of January and AMD has still not yet announced the exact launch date and MSRP.

My trusty 9700K is showing its age and looking forward for an upgrade. :)

Feb 30th confirmed.

But more seriously, i agree, that look like it might only happen in Q2 at this point.

I suspect that either the new scheduler is not ready and/or AMD want to sell more non X3D sku before they ship it.

Good, means the Zen 5 X3D chips I'm actually interested in will be overclockable as well, and that they finally split the voltage rails for the L3 cache.

Zen 4 & Zen 4 X3D still completely unappealing to me, a 5800X3D owner.

Just watched AMD announcement video again and while they claimed a February launch, I just noticed that they never mentioned the year. ;)
