i don't think that will be enough. and plus, if i'm right. the 3870's have a 8-pin power conntectors. And your's only has two. But you could use the the molex adapter, but you lose overdrive. And possible some performance. maybe due to lack of power.



Then I would have to say, get a bigger psu, Those phemon are power hungry and then add 4 3870's.

Oh the Ultra has 2 PCI-E connectors, is the plug on 3870 new type/different? Damn it. Thats whole new rig then

I thought I can carry over my PSU too. Seems like I can carry over HDD and opticals only not PSU.

a 3870 only takes one 6-pin PCIe plug...he'll be more than fine for CF with that PSU
I suppose no one looked at W1zzards recent X-Spice PSU review? That 530W off brand PSU handled 2x 3870X2s running 3Dmark loop at all max settings non stop:

that ultra wont its the vseries its not made to run that high of a load think more like 500w peak on that if you want any life out of it

The Ultra is not even 1.5 yrs old. I screwed one 600W Ultra PSU and couldn't wait for RMA so went and bought it at full price (usually wait for sale if I am not in a hurry). Works perfect.

Something got a go. will decide which way.

If the Ultra handles well, I will leave it alone with 2 cards in CF.

haha that might be a bit of an overstatement, I'd imagine it would run it ok for a bit non load but then would poop out under load as the power draw would be really high due to inefficiency

ok now another dumb question.

I still can't get over my temptation and didn't return the Asus M3A32 CF wifi board (still talking my wife into building new). Can I only use 2 38xx cards in CF mode plugged into the bottom most 2 PCI-E slots so I can use those 2 PCI slots (thats the only reason I am in a dilemma to go with this board or go with DFI).

Ultra **ultra has a huge black mark next to their name because of their psu's, while the older psu's were good, and they fixed the psu problem by switching to andyson**

its not the best PSU manuf but its not listed in the psu guide as to why i don't know i was going by the rating system which had it labeled as red or bad
