AMD today launched its latest graphics card targeting the US $150 sweet-spot, the Radeon HD 6790. The new GPU is intended to make 1080p gaming accessible to even more gamers. It is based on the 40 nm "Barts" silicon (on which HD 6800 series is also based), and features 800 VLIW5 stream processors, 40 TMUs, 16 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface holding 1 GB of memory. The core is clocked at 840 MHz, and memory at 1050 MHz (4.20 GHz effective).

The AMD Radeon HD 6790 might be rarely available in a reference design, rather, AMD's AIB partners are allowed to come up with their own board designs. The new GPU will be launched by various AIB partners, including Sapphire, HIS, XFX, PowerColor, VisionTek, Club3D, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, ColorFire, etc. Target price is US $149.99.

One of the best looking stickers ever. Very minimalistic but still really nice. I hate those colorful nonsense they all use...

Sorry I can't get a hold of a larger version of the picture, but here's a bigger picture from the press-presentation:

still wish they had launched a cheaper HD5700 based card, say 1GHz and 6GT memory chips(something like 5.6GHz GDDR5) and called it a day. I'm sure the performance would have been same or maybe better

£120 for this? No thanks. I'll take the HD6850 for £130.

Ive already read a review of a 6790 and reviewers have placed the cards performance level between a 5770 1GB and 6850. the only way this would be a great card is if the price is right. otherwise theres no reason not to get a 6850 which is more powerful for such a small amount of money more
