Is the 7900XT affected at all? Mine seems fine but I’m curious as they feature a similar but not identical cooler.

I mean Derbauer cant be 100% sure either, he has a handful of cards of which some were faulty, some where not, we dont really know on what scale this really is a problem and we know a bunch of cards wont be affected.

so if your card is fine, well...then tis fine, simple as that.

I tend to trust Der8auer tests. He's the most tech savvy German reviewer out there and the last person who would write that vapor champers are to blame if he wasn't 100% sure.

That is not the point...did you even take the time to watch the video of this "tech savvy German reviewer" you have such admiration for?

If this was a design flaw it would show up on reviews. If this was more than a batch of cards AMD reddit would have exploded. All AIB are selling the reference Cards are all of these from the same manufacturer? Now here is the issue. Does AMD manufacture their cards in house? Did the variants that they receive for QC have this issue? Is it just overblown and in some circles being construed as propaganda. I like TPU but when one of your staff members says that Nvidia has a better software environment than AMD I wonder what that means other than the Software he likes to use. As much as we like to forget Crypto mining has way more to do with Nvidia's market share than Ray Tracing support. Then they released the 4090 and all the press ate it up. You even had PC World disputing (for weeks) that there was an issue. I watched Jay2Cents build a 12th Gen system with a 3070 for upgrade support long term.......All of this creates a situation where there was a thread that is 8 pages long on the very video posted in this staff thread. We need to step back. I am begging all PC press to do blind tests in live stream with no monitoring software with users unaware of the hardware to belie this narrative that AMD is bad and Nvidia is the only choice.

This is good, yes. Finally AMD will be out of the GPU business, and with Intel's changes Nvidia will be the sole dedicated GPU manufacturer out there, finally allowing them to charge $5000 USD for entry level cards and $5000-$9,999,999,9999,999,999 for high end cards.

I do not like it when companies I like face competition.

It's a free market, that still bothers many here for some reason, pick your poison and enjoy.

It's a free market

It is not. Free market means deal is achieved after negotiation - here you don't have a negotiation - here you have a dictator which sets the price and if you express any disagreement, the dictator punishes you by increasing the price even further.

Seems like Radeon's ship is sinking fast. Not the right time for BIG trouble.

AMD needs to act fast, before the ship disappears under...

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
Seems like desperate stuff to me, as earnings collapse for both the main discrete GPU producers... Nvidia had the cable burn and AMD has some reference cards with possible faulty cooler. Thing likely to get even more desperate from here.

For me, anyone owning the 40xx or 79xx is crazy anyway as they're far too expensive.

Idk - with the 3080 going for $1400 here until recently and $800 now - you're getting over double the performance (if you can find it) for %$1600.

It's a lot of cash to drop for sure - but almost everything is expensive.

I`m sure by now every major YT channel palyer know about Der8auer video and his findings, some for sure will do their own testing.
Just a matter of time until more data from other source will emerge, so we will have better picture of how widespread this issue is and that will decide how much of a problem it is.
Putting a front page about that is good, reach much more people that might share more info.
This is a very intresting topic, much like the 12vhpwr, that beside generating a lot of background noise (NV vs. AMD stuff) might acctually help 7900XTX owners that are not aware of the possible issue or sensing something is wrong but don`t know why.
It will probably won't burn your PC like a bad connected cable, but it might be just the tip of the iceberg of a wider range of problems.

Mine is running just fine :) Calling those temps "hot spots" and referring to the heat exchange as "faulty". Someone needs more YouTube subscribers.

Same thing with the 4090s. Completely overblown and nothing more than money making news clips. Finding faulty adapters was like a needle in a haystack.

Wow I didn't realize Nvidia had dark matter to break the 9999 limit.
Whoops, that's what I get for typing too fast.
And depending on country/locale, in numbers commas and periods are very different.

///

The other thing I never understood was being a fanboy of a company.

Let's say you love Nvidia and/or it's products, you'll wanna root for the underdog here because without competition, things are gonna get worse for you.

Being a fan of any hardware company is understandable, especially on tech forums like these and I don't hate or dislike anyone or any user over stuff like this.

Just need any company to do quality checks and don't rush anything out because of bad press. Nvidias power adapter is a small scale issue, but bad press, same thing here, even if there are just a few faulty cards. Don't get me started on rushed video games lmao

It might be time for Nvidia and AMD to consider undervolting their cards by default. They're pushing the envelope too hard and things are giving.

Before we start attacking one another over one guy who bought faulty cards and concluded that they're faulty, like we did in another thread, can we just chill and wait for official statement on the matter?

I for one, couldn't care less what one man says. I want real answers, but we won't get them by attacking or defending that one man's position.

The DP thing might be about UHBR 13.5 vs UHBR 20, as so far there doesn't appear to be support for UHBR 20 on any graphics cards, nor any monitor for that matter. I.e. right now, DP 2.1 is "limited" to 54 Gbps rather than 80 Gbps bandwidth.
Samsung has not revealed the speed of Neo G9 DP 2.1 port. It would totally make sense to have 80 Gbps port on such bandwidth hungry monitor.

If this was a design flaw it would show up on reviews.

It can be a "design flaw" and not manifest in every product shipped. And I don't think there ever was a product with a more or less frequent flaw that would be recalled in the stage of reviewing. Products that arrive faulty are a fact of life, it can happen to any product and reviewers don't have any insight into statistics - should the reviewer write that he received a dead or malfunctioning card, and got it replaced with a working one, so he figures a 50% failure rate? We have heard afterwards that some reviewers encountered failures when it became clear that failure rate is high, but not before.

so if your card is fine, well...then tis fine, simple as that.

So first nvidia in the heat for burning adaptersand now amd is in the hot for faulty coolers.

That's what I will call some hot mess for both of them. But it is also funny that amd first mugs nvidia for the adapter meltdown and now it turns a 360 on them self. Let's see if nvidia will mug AMD for this then.

No matter what, both of these problems are overblown. Nvidia found the problem and amd just need to fix or redesign cooler and it should be good. However if amd will not honor and rma on cards with faulty coolers, that's when we should blow it out of porpoise as that would be unacceptable.
