We live in crazy times, that's for sure. We have already witnessed a plethora of listings for AMD's RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT GPUs - both set to hit shelves early next month - indicating a decent value proposition compared to NVIDIA's RTX 5070 family, if the leaks and rumors are anything to go by. More recently, as spotted by @momomo_us, Amazon briefly listed a bunch of RX 9070 and 9070 XT cards from XFX. The pricing details are as follows:

  • XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 OC - $649.99
  • XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT - $749.99
  • XFX Quicksilver AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT - $769.99
  • XFX Mercury AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT OC - $819.99
  • XFX Mercury AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Magnetic Air Edition - $849.99

As expected from previous whispers, the base RX 9070 card is priced at a relatively okayish $650, and the RX 9070 XT is priced $100 higher. However, things soon took an interesting turn, when a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9070 XT also got listed on Amazon CA - and a curious Redditor actually managed to purchase the thing. The triple-slot, triple-fan card, was priced at a whopping $1,365 CAD, or roughly $962 - which is quite an absurd price for what the card is expected to offer. Of course, the listing was not meant to go live before official release, which was originally intended for late January before being pushed back to early March. Needless to say, it is highly likely that the Redditor's order will end up getting cancelled, or perhaps, shipped only after the official release.

I thought no one knows what it offers..............yet.............. ??

Having said that I would say that's an absurd price for any consumer card...........

Until 7900 XTX is out-of-stock, which has already happened in some stores.
The only reason people will be getting AMD cards is because they either don't want to support Nvidia, the Nvidia cards are out of stock, or they want them for Linux/open-source related endeavors.

all of there 9800x3d cpu's are still selling out the moment they come in stock, and almost all their gpu's were sold out, and well still are in a lot of places thanks to AI, in sveral countries you can't buy a 7900 xt or xtx.

So, I mean eh... AMD is going to be just fine I assure you. This is just a bad upgrade generation all around though, personally I am waiting for 2nm or 3nm node gpus in 2-4 years. Also, more foundries will be up and running soonish, so costs may indeed normalize a bit better when that happens.

I think i will try to forget about upgrading at all, these prices/ performance are just getting more absurd than ever.
Supposedly 9070XT msrp is $599 and 5070 ti $749.99

5070 ti is listed at Microcenter already starting at $899 at the lowest up to $1000+
... and now these kind of leaks on the 9070XT price.
Even saving $700 wont get a s#$% on this new gen.

The bad upgrade generation and high price argument I read for several years. At a certain point the buyer will most likely get a playstation, play on a smartphone or just replace his defective or old graphic card.
Regardless of the performance or asking price.

I used a second hand 960 nvidia card for a few months in 2023. That was not a pleasant gaming experience.

yep, the AI craze will die down eventually, and we will have loads of silicon factories up and running by end of 2030, early 2030's i expect prices to plummet on gpu's and cpu's. they corrected for market demands, but underestimate how long a lot of us actually plan to keep our stuff, etc etc

AI die down ? Seriously doubt that, as we hoomans don't have enough sense to stop it right friggin NOW....

And besides that, by 2030, GPU's will probably be inside of your head, instead of your putin box :D

i mean it's just a guess, the big dawgs won't be using consumer gpu's, i think AI for consumer gpu's will die down, to be clearer

Presumably anyone who snagged one early isn't bound by an NDA and can post benchmarks?

he won't have access to the proper drivers for them, so they would be inaccurate anyway.

Gen for gen for similar price there must be at least 30% performance increase. If RX 9070 XT will cost the same as RX 7900 XTX and have the same performance than i will not upgrade to anything (AMD is going nvidia's route) All for AI and middle finger for gamers! The same story when mining was profitable.

i paid 799€ for a 7900 XTX TUF OC.

That's a true downgrade (for idiots) similar to RTX 5080 piece of shit.

In comes the era of the early-adopter tax... as much as I like to root for the 'little' guy, I can't justify these prices even if it blows the 7900XTX out of the water. Seems like Nvidia and AMD had their shoes untied for this release if they're both tripping up this badly.
