AMD is preparing Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition, keeping up with the tradition of big year-end software launched that are high on new features. VideoCardz got a whiff of three if its key features. One of them is Voice Control. You will soon be able to talk to your graphics card through voice-commands picked up from your microphone. Rolling out initially in English and Chinese, you will soon be able to control a lot of things while still in game and not having to take your hands off your keyboard/mouse. These include taking screenshots, telling the driver to record or stream your gameplay using ReLive, adjust display settings such as brightness, contrast, and gamma; etc. It should also take commands to change resolution, rotate displays, move workspaces between multiple displays, etc.

Enthusiasts can rejoice as WattMan could get an expanded feature-set, including one-click overclocking, similar to NVIDIA's "Turing" OC Scanner. This one-click OC feature cranks up not just your GPU's clock speeds, but also video memory. The drivers also support fully automated undervolting, which should make several current-generation Radeon graphics cards more energy-efficient. Lastly, AMD seems to be compensating for NVIDIA's VirtualLink implementation by introducing a more advanced interface - direct streaming to VR headsets. Think Steam Link for VR headsets.

So another company that can store your voice data like amazon alexa, apple siri and hey google eh?

Im sure with the amount of voice clips stored, they can run it though some sort of wave/vocal analyzer and have it mimic or reproduce your voice patterns perfectly. I mean, Alexa is always listening right?

In Win10 you can give explict permision who can use your mic, so you can disable it if you want to.

Cortana was already on that task unless you disable it as i would this.
Hopefully this isn't all, some performance uplift would be nice.

Have they fixed the bug of WATTMAN not saving settings between reboots? I'm not re-OCing my GPU every day.

I also have 0 interest in talking to my GPU. It is a GPU, it draws graphics, that is all it does or should do. All the voice commands listed can be done with a simple button press, it is LESS work then talking to the damned thing.

Me: "Wattman, why are you not spinning the R9 390 fans - the video card is overheating and I have you set to auto adjust the fans ?"
Wattman: "I don't recognize AIB R9 390 designs (anymore)"
Me: "Bad excuse, Crimson use to auto control the fans ?"
Wattman: "I hate Hawaii and you are just not worth it - buy a Vega and I'll see what I can do"
Me: "Screw you, I'm using Afterburner, or better yet, I'm going to flash my own custom fan profile"

I don't want to talk to it, I want my video controls back.

The whole voice thing, I hope it's not embedded in the driver itself.

Better yet, I hope this "feature" is completely optional and not required to be installed. After all, Relive used to be optional

I hope WattMan will finally remember voltages and won't reset stuff left and right.
...keep dreaming.

edit: Automated undervolting? YAY! (if it works)

I used a AIB 390X recently for my vega RMA and that worked perfectly on 18.10 drivers for everything ?

Msi afterburner however doesn't support my vega at all, no fan control, no voltage, only power, temp, clocks and that's it and I have a msi oc boost v64.

Relive still Is optional, Choose a Custom install
and at the end of installation pre reboot pick no.
And wattmans memory is fine now, has been a while.

Ah, I though it wasn't anymore, since yesterday I installed the 18.12.1 drivers and I wasn't offered the choice.

It wasn't a clean install, though, so maybe that's why it didn't ask.

My 390 is the ASUS STRIX R9 390 with the triple fan. Wattman does not work on auto fan control with this card (I've tried 17.9 to the latests 18.x wasting many hours).
The best I can do is slide the control to manual and set the speed of the fans manually. That is not convenient for gaming/productivity to constantly tweaking the fans manual control.

I think Wattman is reading the fan RPM sensor as too high a value and so cannot adjust the fan speed. I wish I could provide a 'scaling' factor so that Wattman could properly control the fans.

I don't remember what kind of aib I used, I got it from a friend as a loaner.
my Wattman issue is voltage, HBM, and Core frequency on vega in wattman which have been issues on fury's and vega's since forever!
so not everything is perfect but hoping this dec. update works properly but I do not expect it :P

- "GPU, are you ok? You seem out of breath, wanna take five?"
- "No, I'm fine, this is the best part of the game, keep going!"
Always wanted this kind of conversation with my hardware, what about CPU, we get that soon too?

Wish they would focus on getting some new cards out rather than stupid sh** like this.

It's just like MSI afterburner , it does not support every card made ,Ab has good support but not perfect.
No software company can make tuning software that works on every card since some AIB's, create/ add a feature, like 0rpm fans or on start fan reverse cleaning that uses different control hardware, be realistic ,its mostly supporting reference designs as others do, or their own designs in the case of asus gpu tool, msi Ab and the many others.

When I boot up the PC, the AIB ASUS STRIX R9 390 fans spin up according to the firmware fan profile.

When Win10 is loaded and Adrenalin starts up, Wattman TAKES control of the video card fans in auto mode (by default). No other fan control software is installed at this point during this test.
Because Wattman does not understand the rpm sense from the video card it sets the fan speed to 0 (off).

I was lucky to discover this happening when my case door was open and the fans were NOT spinning. The card had gotten to 65 C and would have burned up.

If Wattman could not understand how to control an AIB video card fan, there should at least be a disable Wattman fan profile somewhere.

And programmers have what to do with making new cards? I think you won the "stupidest of the class" award.

I don't know, saying "go faster!" might be the placebo these chaps need whilst they patiently waiting for Navi.

Now... "undervolt on".

Of all the boring stupid shi... You know what? Ok, botnet on video drivers. At the very least give me Wattman on GCN1. Or that undervolting.

As long as AMD supplies a bare bones version of their drivers, does not require me to register, and continue to be rock solid, all good!

Put as many gimmicks as you want in the bloated version.

"Voice command to your GPU" gotta be some of most gimmcky shit I have seen coming from a freaking GPU company.

Streaming to VR HMD? What the hell does it even mean? How about proper SteamVR feature support instead? Like Async Reprojection or Smooth Motion VR?

1 click OC sounds nice, I hope it supports more than just their latest GPUs.

Not impressed with the driver. I had loads of driver problems after 18.5.1 when i still had the FuryX

or better yet, ditch the crappy GPU and go green!

If the telemetry is bad I surely hope some backlash will follow. For some reason RTG is getting easy-pass way too often for some of the shit they pull. (Remember at the start of 2018 their first aderaline driver stopped supporting directX9 titles briefly and one of their tech support on the AMD forum as like: "so what? bite us")

Yeah that is just RTG's way to help you upgrade to Vega.

Some validity but soured by hate, thankfully everyone's experience wasn't the same as yours , i owned all amd cards around that fury just not it and all Nvidia cards around it too, in use and id say you had more issues than most for some reason but your assumption everyone's experience is the same is missplaced plus, you think Nvidia need you drumming their sales?? In an Amd driver thread ,strange ways indeed.

As someone who have never previously used nvidia GPU, or in other words, someone who have only used ATi/AMD GPU for the past 15 years, I am more than qualified to voice my experience for ATi/AMD both hardware and software.

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/i-did-it-after-15yrs-of-only-buying-team-red-gpu.248165/

If I only had a FuryX for AMD GPU then yeah I would be biased. However this is not just 1 GPU gen, but 15years of ATi/AMD GPU experience talking.

Back to topic.

GCN must die. David Wang and his team better work their ass off to get the new GPU design ready.
