AMD released an energy-efficient version of the Phenom X3 8450 triple-core processor, the X3 8450e, which features a reduced TDP of 65W. The processor carries the SKU PIB code of HD8450ODJ3BGH. The processor comes with a clock speed of 2.10 GHz (10.5 x 200 MHz). The processor is based on the 65nm Toliman core. It comes in the AM2+ package, and comes with a HyperTransport 3.0 system interface of 3600 MT/s. The processors feature 512 KB per core of L2 and shared 2 MB of shared L3 caches. I agree with both of you.

I've always wondered what the point of a tri-core is. It'sa bit like Sainsbury's "Taste The Difference" cheese.

AMD needed a selling point.

1 reason was because dual cores were way behind in performance, AMD ended up taking a few quad's that didn't pass tests disabled a core. and realized performance was not great but better than some high end dual cores.

Reading that article it shows that in some modern games the performance boost from 2 to 3 cores is pretty decent, with 3 to 4 cores providing little improvment, so i guess for people who want to go multicore on an AM2 or AM2+ platform but don't want to spill the extra £/$ for a quad can get a tri which will play games the same.

Out goes my X2 4800 65w from my HDPC and in comes this new guy:rockout:

$107 is pretty cheap for a new proc. I wouldnt discount them being sub $100 when they hit US shelves.

hey bta, do u know when this proc is going to be released? This month before christmas? If so I might pickup one.

I wounder how it will overclock. but like others have said it would be nice for HDPC or htpc
