AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Starts Selling at 30% Mark-up

On popular US retailer Newegg, the processor is going for as high as USD $589, or $140 higher than the $449 MSRP, a 30 percent mark-up. This would also put its price a vulgar $230 higher (64 percent higher) than the Ryzen 7 5800X

Vulgar you say? That's the norm in other parts of the world. :p

Oh and Alder Lake CPUS are selling much closer to MSRP here as well. Well done AMD and also thanks for not releasing the Ryzen 5 5600 here despite it showing has a "global" release on the official AMD website!.

It's comparable to chips that are hundreds of dollars cheaper with cherry picked performance gains in limited scenarios.
It's not "hundreds of dollars" more expensive. It is exactly $100 more expensive which is a reasonable price for something that is much better at gaming. And it isn't better in cherry picked limited scenarios. Over 80 percent of all games see a nice improvement.

Assetto Corso: 44 percent faster. Wow.
Starcraft 2: 33 percent faster.
War Thunder, Fortnite, Battlefield 5, Hitman 3, Flight Simulator. 20-30 percent faster. There's something for everyone. Call of Duty. Farcry 6. Valorant. Turns out almost every game can benefit from more and or faster cache. That's the entire reason the i9 is faster than the i5. Not because of more cores, but because of more cache.

I guess AMD was right to start it at $450 and not lower. The fact that beats the top, best chip of Intel that costs over $700 and the fact that it can be inserted in AM4 motherboards, was enough to warranty high demand. This is NOT bad. If AMD sees high demand for this chip, then we can expect X3D CPUs for AM5 also. And we want to see X3D CPUs in AM5, to have a different option than buying a 5.5-6GHz chip that will be spiking over 300W just for a few extra fps(not talking about 12900K, but for a future "gaming" CPU).

Around US$465 here, including 5% tax.

Marketplaces like ebay, amazon, newegg are always full of people who will rip you off if you let them.

The answer is simple. Don't be greedy or impatient enough to buy at the scalper rates unless you can make a case to yourself that the scalper price is worth it. Scalpers only operate in markets where there's a demand and if you feed that demand you are part of the problem.

Price in Czech republic:
AMD eshop: 511,22 euro + 22 euro shipping (VAT included), same price for both 5800X and 5800X3D
Lowest price in local shop: on Tsbohemia.cz for 5800X3D is 11890CZK (inc. VAT) resp. 473,78 euro (cz shipping included)
5800X goes in same eshop for 8918 CZK
meaning whooping 33 % overcharge

Out of stock now, but SuckerTech still got it.

Out of stock in a lot of places now, I'm just surprised it didn't happen earlier..

Aren't TPU supposed to be better than other sites with clickbait? I'm seeing more of this recently and will take my time elsewhere if it's now the norm...

Bought it yesterday for €530 , arrived today.

I almost bought it..

I love my 5900.. it’s a beast. But I think back to running my 5600X and how my fans barely spooled with that cpu installed unless it was working hard. If you can’t oc 5800x3d then it would probably run nice and cool in my system.

If it is still in stock tomorrow I might buy it..

Would probably sell my 5900X.. ugh.

It's not worth the bother, mate. I think the 5900X is a better CPU still... unless you're big into sims, like, especially MSFS (seems to be by far the best chip for it) and some of the racing sims like Assetto Corsa where the X3D seems to be absurdly good, then it would be worth it but at the cost of having a noticeable reduction in all other everyday tasks' performance... it is a trade-off. :toast:

5% tax, oof. 23% here.
Hi,
Dang consumption tax system sounds like hitting you there

Some say doing this would eliminate or lower income or property tax but reality is, governments never get tiered of other peoples money so they just hike tax rates and or create new ones to feed themselves.

On topic they really should add Third party to the title.

Not NewEgg proper, it's some of their resellers. Check your hate before posting nonsense.
Check yourself, most can agree CS at newegg has went to crap since they were bought out. I see nowhere in the article that it was resellers, go fanboi elsewhere.

Hi,
And this is the main problem plus third party is not in the title either which is in fact should be added/ fixed asap.

if reading isn’t your strong point at least look at the picture attached to the article.

I don’t believe that AMD have a lot of 5800X3D for sale to begin with. So no surprises, we see retailers trying to make a quick buck by capitalising on the shortage. At the end of the day, there is hardly any reason to shell out these sort of money for the 5800X3D. I rather use the money to get a higher core 5900X or an Intel Alder Lake CPU for gaming. Sure it does not run as fast in games, but I think I am getting better bang for my bucks. The benefit of the 3D cache shrinks as we push game resolution up. And lastly, Zen 3 is on its last leg and will be replaced with Zen 4 later in the year.

I guess there are different realities out there in different countries.

In my country you never EVER have to pay more than $250 for ALL needed prescription medication per year. Need a lung transplant? You don't have to pay for that. Going to the ER cost $25-40. 18 months of paid parental leave for each newborn child, often divided into 9 months for each parent (the parents choose how to divide it between them).

Kindergarten is free, school from day one throughout university is free. Which means ANYONE has the possibility to become a lawyer/engineer/medical doctor/whatever, no need for parents money. Well you still need the brains and the grades, of course.. :D

Everything I've mentioned above, even if it's controlled by an inefficient government (dunno if/if not), imagine moving all that the private sector where everyone must, and can, make a profit. Now THAT would not be cost effective.

No, it's not perfect in my country, but anyone who tries to understand our situation just by imagining having OUR tax on top THEIR current salary and with THEIR current expenses in THEIR country misses the point by far. That goes both ways, of course.

Yup, third party is key here, as most bigger stores still have decent prices.

Deja vu?

Well, try doing a search for 'reseller' in that article. When I looked on Newegg there were no resellers present or referenced, tho I'm not sure at this point.

and lets not dip into baiting.

120EUR premium at jimms.fi. 5800X is 395EUR, 5800X3D is 515EUR.

What is funny is that 5900X is 470EUR. But purely for gaming, then yeah, 5800X3D is a better choice.

Why would I search for 'reseller'? The seller is mentioned in the last sentence of the first paragraph. It's also clearly in the screenshot that it's shipped and sold by a third party.

This whole article is baiting - and guess who bit?
