I got one of them
. I ordered on day 1, i.e. 7/11 for €529 at 14:48 CET as per their email confirmation (Mindfactory, like others, jumped the gun a little because the CPUs weren't supposed to go on sale until 15:00 CET). The first batch of CPUs were sold out within 20 minutes (as I expected).
Like others, I made the "mistake" of ordering some other parts (which were shown as 'in stock' however) with the CPU so MF delayed the shipment quite a bit. They shipped it on 13/11 and I've been a happy 9800X3D owner since mid November
.
That's when I could finally retire my degraded Intel 13900K crap and I sent the CPU off to RMA. Intel exchanged the CPU without any trouble and I sold the new RMA 13900K CPU on eBay for €334. BTW, credit where credit is due. Intel RMA was pretty fast thanks to DHL Express. It took about a week from opening the RMA case to new CPU on my desk with a weekend in between so it could have gone even faster with a bit of luck.
Had a small heart attack when I first installed the 9800X3D. I had actually first bought a 9700X and when I swapped it out for the 9800X3D I had a black screen on the first boot with a system shutdown after ~30 seconds each time.
I was cursing like a sailor but simply reassembling everything from scratch did the trick.
I'm not sure what it was. Maybe I put on the screws of my Alphacool Eisbaer 360 a tiny little bit too tight(?). You are supposed to only screw it on hand tight and use no tools... which I did, but I screwed it on a little tighter than the 9700X before. Maybe a tad too much? If so then either the 9800X3D or the AM5 socket on my ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E is sensitive as fuck when it comes to the contact between the socket and CPU.
Anyway, it runs like a champ now and I'm probably not touching it for at least another two years or so, so it's all good
