The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the spearhead of the AMD Zen 4 X3D lineup. In our performance review we test AMD's new 16-core flagship with dozens of applications and 14 games at up to 4K, to see whether AMD can take the performance crown from Intel, how power consumption is affected, and what can be expected from overclocking.

Really the Best of both worlds
Stock power consumption level is very nice

The AMD Empire Strikes Back.
well ... almost.

it really beats me why they're delaying the release of the 7800x3d tho; for the vast majority of all users that's the by far most compelling part - and a summary dismissal of the 13900k @ gaming

as-is, this is kind of a wash bc both the 7950x3d and the 13900k are fucking overpriced; the vast majority of all users just dont need all those cores

Hence why the 13600K and 77/7800X3D exist.

Really odd 7800X 3D has been delayed but really interesting how the CPU is performing.

Looks great tbh. Looks really good for the 7800X3D.

Rather have an i9 13900K...

Better yet, just keep using my i7 12700K for now.. :D

Damn... +60% difference in Borderlands? Insane. The 7800X3D must be the real king.

Age of Empires doesn't make sense on a performance test, because it's a strategy game. It's time to revamp the game list. Add new BF, COD and other recent popular AAA games.

Buh-bye Raptor, was nice knowing ya :nutkick:

AMD & tbf Intel both have clocked their chips to insane levels, if you disable turbo & clock them closer to 4-4.5Ghz I bet they get awfully close to M2 efficiency!

Holy crap! Same performance as 13900k at half the power in non gaming apps and a third of the power in gaming. That's incredible.

edit: and for all you overpriced critics, an AMD FX-51 cost $733 when it was released almost 20 years ago. At that time you got a single core at 2.2 Ghz with no turbo and only 1 MB of cache. For what you get today, CPU prices are way, way cheaper.

So it relies on game mode and xbox game bar to function properly? lol wtf

ouch, still lose to 13900K with only 6000MT DDR5

WOW CSGO using preferred frequencies has insane drops for the lows.. what's going on with that?

~14m time mark:

EDIT: hmm, might be because of the lower CPU frequency using the Vcache chiplet/CCD

If you care about power you aren’t an enthusiast.

Great review as usually from our @W1zzard ! Just a small notice on the conclusion: When you compare the pricing difference between 7950X3D with 13900K that is $130 atm, shouldn't you also point out that the Intel CPU needs much more expensive cooling that will diminish that difference and in the longterm use the AMD CPU will be the more beneficial financially using so much less power (~half at MT and <hallf on gaming)?

The game list was just revamped .. BF2042 and COD are always-online, no way to get precise measurements, and then they release a patch and I have to retest 40 CPUs

@ W1zzard Are there other Ram dividers on Zen 4 for higher than 1:1 infinity fabric settings ?
It's 2:1:1 forthe settings now right ? is there a 2:2:1 setting ? cause I'm curious how it effects Zen 4

I'ts nice to see that with a the next 3D vcache were getting more OC options, seems like AMD is slowly ironing out those vcache oc issuse to get closer to normal non-vcache chips

No and no. It doesn't need much more expensive cooling,, especially for gaming - you can use a 30€ cooler.
